I mean we're born told to go to school, taught we need to get a job to survive and progress in life, told to believe in god, told to follow laws set out for us etc.
Do some of you just feel trapped in other peoples preconceptions of how we " should be "?

There is literately nothing stopping you from breaking from the standard formula which society dictates how a normal person should live to be happy and successful, while allowing others around them to do the same.

Really to be actually happy is a success and so is breaking from the standard formula if you aren't enjoying it... Unless you are thinking about shooting up a school, dont do that OP!

You don't HAVE to adhere to 'the system'. You can break free at any time and just go exist as you like. People seem to think it's harder then it is, when in reality they're just scared to do it.

I've got friends who think the whole system is floored, yet they continue to exist within it whilst contributing to it every single day. If you believe something is wrong, separate yourself from it or attempt to fix it. Otherwise your just a hypocrite.

If it isn't broke? Cram as much education in as soon as you can start learning right up until you can legally work.

Then either learn more or work or do nothing.

Want to travel the world? Do it and work on the way. Or work till you have enough money then travel.

Buy a house when you want. Settle down when you want. Have a family when you want. Don't want to do any of that then don't.

Work til you drop dead. Work til you can retire. Don't work and scrape by.

There's a million and one ways to go about things. Some timelines do have nature against you though.

Be a hippy and live off grid, it's possible but probably a less pleasant existence if you aren't raised that way. Will also really suck come your old age, but you will have probably frozen to death in your commune at the age of 60 anyway.

I'm not one to conform to what's classed as normal. I absolutely hate my job and I've not worked since July - I don't intend to go back either, and no career appeals to me. The school / uni is a lie that we fall for, I've got an excellent engineering degree but still can't buy a home with a ''good job'' so what's the point. That means I've no home because I can't pay rent, so to conserve my savings I will be making myself homeless. I've got my car so I'll live in my car until I find a place to call home. I'm looking forward to it - I will answer to absolutely nobody, it feels liberating to be nomadic and free, I'm also realistic with respect to weather so I've got provisions for that. For daily supplies I will do what is necessary to acquire them; I've always liked the idea of living on a narrowboat, so that might be an obtainable goal.

Its just us humans standardising on a way of doing things, it wont be the best for every situation (no standard ever is) but it's at least a way of giving direction.

Its only been standardised because it what works for society, and only if it stops working for society will we change it.

I do suspect there might be a change to our fundamental thinking in the pipeline, look at the suicide rates for under 25's (or millenials if you want to be a condescending ***** about it), a generation that's had it the best of any generation before them in terms of technology, education, leisure activities etc is suddenly finding modern life all too much. There's something wrong with the system and it'll need to change.

I suspect it's being caused by the advent of media being blasted into us from every direction all at once from the constant clickbait headlines through to facebook and the expectation you need to be a happy interesting fun individual who's always available to respond all of the time.

You can be what you want to be but if you don't follow the rules you have had it. lol

Because it has developed over hundreds of years to provide the greatest benefit to society.

If you want another society, go find one..

Modern western society is actually very forgiving.. You can essentially live as anything you want and the state will prop you up.. Try that in anything other than a western capitalist state, and you will starve to death or be beaten into conformity by others.

Can confirm. I recently spent a week living in a off-grid place and I wouldn't want to do it all the time. I'm pretty outdoorsy, but I was really pining for the simple joys of central heating, an oven and not being restricted by whatever time the sun went down.

Nothing is preordained. You have choices and the choices you make, largely effect your life. Most information you have given is right, you need certain thing to progress further in life, such as an education. You do not need someone to tell you to believe in any kind of god. If you wish to adopt religion, that should be your choice, or something you think critically about when you are able.
