• Competitor rules

Please remember that any mention of competitors, hinting at competitors or offering to provide details of competitors will result in an account suspension. The full rules can be found under the 'Terms and Rules' link in the bottom right corner of your screen. Just don't mention competitors in any way, shape or form and you'll be OK.

What is it?

The X is actually there in this case to represent an unknown number, probably to avoid going into the 10,000s. Notice how ATI did a similar thing after the Radeon 9000 series.

I reckon Nvidia just want to avoid getting into a situation such as "Radeon X1950 XTX"

If they kept it as "X295 GT", you'd expect an "X295 GTX".

You could say that, but then you also get "GTS2XX" cards.

I think meaningless prefixes and suffixes seriously suck.

It's great that ATi have dropped them, even if people have only just stopped using them.

4850 pro? 4870 XT? *cringe*

I've always hated that nonsense. What does XT even mean?

At least HD actually means something, what with them being aimed at HD usage and having HDMI compatibility etc.

What was ridiculous was when nVidia and ATi decided it'd make sense to borrow eachothers suffixes.

at the top of the thread there is a bit that says "Thread Tools", you should be able to close your own threads from there...

Maybe this is only in the MM though... give it a try!!
