On eBay, what are you following views on the following two points:

1) When you buy something, how long do you expect to receive the item? Assuming: a) You pay instantly with Paypal; b) There are no "item will be sent after 5 working days" in the auction; c) The item will be sent Special Delivery.
If the auction ends before 3pm, I would expect to receive the item the following day.

2) Again, when you buy something, who do you expect to leave feedback first? The buyer, or seller?
The seller. You are paying them, and leaving you feedback is the least they ought to do.

My own answers for the above, are in yellow.

First one, couple of days, probably.

second one, Them first, you are paying them, they say thanks, then you say thanks.

1. i would give it 1 week. I'm a patient guy, so i can wait.

2. feedback is normally 'exchanged'. i give the seller good feedback stating when the item arrives, and he gives me good feedback in return for quick payment. some sellers forget to leave feedback and giving them feedback could jog their memory inot returning the favour.

1) 2 working days. I think your expected timescale is unacceptable. There is no way I could post an item that a buyer had bought before 3pm that same day.

2) I wait for the buyer to leave feedback beofre leaving feedback of my own. I want to see if they are happy with the item first you see.

Delivery should be in a "reasonable" timeframe - At the very least, there should be communication between buyer & seller to manage the expectations on both sides.

Feedback - If I paid the seller, I have fulfilled my side of the deal, and expect the appropriate feedback.

That's always been a bugbear of mine - that there is no indication if feedback is retaliatory or not.

I imagine one or two OcUK members are wondering why I'm harping on about eBay etiquette.

Two instances caused this.

1) Won an item on Sunday, states Special Delivery. No sign of the item yet. If it hasn't turned up by tomrrow at 1pm (SD deadline), I will be phoning them up tomorrow.

2) Another seller wanted me to leave him +ve feedback. So I did. But I told him I expected most sellers to leave feedback, on the basis I paid for the item within five minutes.

I take onboard the fact some people will have 9-5 jobs. But they should say in their auction "please allow 1-2 days for delivery", so people know where they stand.

Unless they said same day dispatch I'd be happy with them sending it next day - they might work 9-5 so are unable to get to the Post Office straight away.

I think the sellers should leave feedback first as your part of the deal is complete, however I can easily see the case for not leaving the feedback first when selling. As long as I get my feedback and they get theirs it's all good though :)

1. About 3 days. I sell stuff and dont post till about 5 days later, simply cos i havnt had the time, but i let the buyer know the delay.

2. Buyer should always leave feedback first.

1/ I normally when making the payment, request that they let me know when they have shipped the items, so that I know when to expect delivery. If I don't hear anything within 5 working days I send them a query. But if I'm after fast delivery I wouldn't be using ebay in the first place.

2/ I leave feedback when I recieve the item and check that its all as described. I'd like it if the seller left me feedback when I pay, but I'm not too bothered if they decide to wait until after I've paid. (and this gives them a chance to see if paypal try to grab the money back, so I don't have any qualms)

1) How do you expect most people to be able to ship the same day like that? Totally unrealistic. You have no right to expect it to be shipped any faster than the next working day.

2) Buyer should leave feedback first. If buyers don't leave me any, they don't get any.

1) Taking into account what posting service they're using (what I'm paying for), within 2-3 days of what I'd expect from the service.

2) Seller ought to really, but since hitting the big 300 I never bother with feedback.

Surely the seller should leave feedback as soon as they recieve payment? Take this situation for example: Buyer pays for item as soon as auction ends. Seller sends a dodgy item, or takes too long to send or something else deserving negative feedback. So the buyer rightly leaves negative feedback, and so the seller responds with negative feedback even though the buyer didn't do anything wrong. If the seller had to leave feedback first then this would be avoided.

1: Given the fact that most people work and every Post Office in the world is closed I'd give them a week unless promised otherwise or they are a Powerseller.

2: I always wait for people to leave me feedback even when I am selling.

That's the way I do it. YMMV

1) Up to 1 week with communication. [I have happily done 2 months of waiting with good communication however] (most people on ebay are not businesses, they are people will real constraints, demanding next day delivery does not do anyone favours)

2) Depends:

If I am the buyer: I communicate that I have sent payment and give my address. I then give feedback based on the service upon recieving the item.

If I am the seller: I communicate with the buyer, telling them that I have recieved payment, when I expect to be able to post the item and when I have actually got round to posting it, I do not usually leave feedback until they give it to me as I know that I am being completely sound in my business. However somtimes people do not give me feedback on getting the item because I have not given them feedback. So I give them a ring/email asking them if they got it and if they are happy. If they did get the item, then I will give them feedback, if not, I wait until they have.

1..Good communication usually helps with delivery times.....I expect within 2weeks max....if some1 has a full time job its sometimes hard to get to the PO b4 it shuts... Unless its stated in auction delivery next day.

2 Feedback ...whatever ...whenever. But I do try and leave it myself......I think the buyer should leave it first because once he has received the item for him the transaction is over. The transaction for the seller is not really over until the buyer has received it....because in the post its still the seller responsibility after all the delivery contract (postage ) is between him and the PO

Bingo.

I leave feedback last and Im usually a seller

This is because you get a lot of weird people on ebay who have a go for little or no reason, I sold an item as brand new, it was a DVD boxset and it was literally brand new, the guy had a go at me as it wasnt sellofane sealed, which was a fair point as it was new however I bought it from new and didnt get it in that state, I explained that not everything new comes in sellofane when new, as say you buy a boxset from a shop, and then they put the DVDs in which are stored behind the counter

So he gave me negative :( which was completely unjust, if I had left him positive for paying that would be that, as he had annoyed me for no reason, I did the same back, left him a negative saying he took a while to pay and had unreal expectations about what he was buying which he had a go at me over, then filed for a mutual remove feedback and he got rid of it straight away.

1) I'd hope 2 days, and 5 at the very max. Next day is unreasonable, a lot of sellers just do it as a hobby/occasional interest and cannot guarantee they'll be able to get to the post office during a particular day, but to expect them to be able to call in on the way to work the next morning/during their lunch hour for instance would seem fair.

2) I expect the buyer to leave feedback once they receive the goods to say they are happy. At that point I'll return feedback, say thanks etc etc and that marks the transaction complete.
