What is polite eBay Etiquette

next day is completely unreasonable, its impossible for me to do that cause i work 9-6 and the post office is a way away.

i usually expect within a week and I leave feedback when the transaction has been completed

I would expect delivery within about 5 days. In the past it's been 7 days before the item was even posted - I don't think that's acceptable.

As for posting, I'd say 1 day, possibly 2, then another one for special delivery and another 2 for royal mail is fair.

I've been left waiting 3 weeks by one seller that wanted to do all his parcels once a month, needless to say he got a lot of annoyed people and got off his butt more often from then on ;)

1: Given the fact that most people work and every Post Office in the world is closed I'd give them a week unless promised otherwise or they are a Powerseller.

2: I always wait for people to leave me feedback even when I am selling.

That's the way I do it. YMMV

Ditto :)

In a perfect world it would arrive next day, but I'd be pleased if it happened rather than expecting it. But Thursday is a bit long IMO for Special Delivery.

As a seller I always leave fb once I have the payment. As a buyer I only leave fb first in exceptional circumstances.

I bought a pair of shorts from ebay and they were supposed to be sent via special delivery (£4 for postage). They came by standard parcels post so I complained and the seller sent me a £2 cheque. He'd already left me feedback and I didn't leave him any until after the cheque cleared ;)
