What is so special about Counter-Strike?

Tried it and i thought it was crap. You have like few seconds to buy stuff and id need a few mins to look through and see desriptions and see if its what i want then buy it so yeah i didnt like the 5 second buy somit quick thing. Then theres the whole gameplay, i had no clue what to do. Apparently you gotta go disable a bomb i think but fked if i know where it is how to disable it etc. Not very good instructional wise imo. People know all the tricks and spots to camp at so if ur getting into it now then id not bother as u wont have a chance.

That was my experience too.

I couldn't disagree more. The buy system is great and very simple to master, so much so my 14 year old niece figured it out. After a couple of games you should be able to buy your hardware without looking at the screen. using B then the number relating to the weapon.

The buy system is a tiny part of the problem. The more important one follows.
Game play is very simple too.
Playing the game- knowing how to move and shoot, etc., couldn't be simpler. But playing and not getting killed constantly, demans that you play again and again, practice and practice, till you learn all the maps, while everyone you play against knows all the choke points and camping spots, etc. It's just not a game for a casual gamer, though it might have been in the beginning.

press f1 and it will auto buy you armour +a rifle if you can afford it.

then use the numbers for other stuff, ie b >6 >1 is a flash bang iirc.

then you can save a load out and simply click that and it will buy the stuff for you (think you have 3 slots) b

but there are also 3 basic load outs i nthem, for snipers shotguns and subs.

.

terrorists ahve the bomb,. they plant it at either A or b (marked on your map and great big letters painted on the walls )

personaly though i like office and the hostage rescue ones.

The rush that hits you when the bomb timer is ticking down, there's you and just one other guy and your whole team is depending on you. I <3 AK bursting.

You do know you can play against bots right? Pretty good way to get to grips with the very basics, playing with 3 bots on easy, then upping the difficulty, then going online. There's also the Deathmatch mod and the Gungame mod to help there aswell...

I love it as a quick jump in game that you can play for 20 mins or play for hours getting slowly drunker whilst playing (used to do that at uni before then going out). If I'm not gonna get drunk and I want a longer game though I usually hop onto Left 4 Dead...

I do, but that's a lot of effort for a game that I'm supposed to be able to just jump in and enjoy. How much practice do i have to do before I can play the game? No thanks.

It became massively outdated in 2002........

BF1942 was released :)

CSS was outdated on release date.

Love bf/cod (except mw2) but CS was a game i could never get into. Couldn't say why? Just never felt right.

As opposed to MW or MW2 where you jump in and get insta-airstriked, spawn camped, random nade from the other side of the map-ed, or random shot through wall-ed?

:p

I used to play it loads, I had a mod where I could spot people who were running the invisible cheat, used to show them up as a predator style distortion.
Annoyed them no end, camping away just to get shot as soon as they set up.

Invalid argument. This is the same as ANY other similar game.

If anything it is a game for the casual gamer. I last played it 3 Months ago after a 3 year break. Picked it up like I'd never been away.

Nope.

Experience affords near limitless advantage in CS/CSS whereas other games use convoluted "balance" to shift the advantage based on circumstance and choice as opposed to experience alone.

It is not a casual game in the sense that you are going to get kerb stomped endlessly until you invest time to hone skills and experience. This is the polar opposite of casual game-play.

1.6 is skill personified in a FPS game. Simple, fun and the weak get savagely owned. Only game that comes close is DoTA/HoN.

CSS is the eaiest online fps to get in to. if you think it isnt then your doing something wrong lol.

if you dont like the buy system then play gungame (though you'd probably moan about that). if you dont like waiting to respawn then play deathmatch (though you'd probably moan about getting spawn killed)...there's really nothing to CSS that requires any real length of time other than improving your hand to eye coordination which tbh should be pretty reasonable for anybody whos ever played an fps game on the pc ever.

One of the best things about css is the open-endednessszs of it all. Custom maps galour, none of this dust 2 snooze a thon. There are some genuinely brilliant maps out there.
