What is the best car you've ever owned and a brief reason why?

objectively my current one, ipace 400bhp, 4wd 0-60 in 4.4 seconds.

subjectively my yellow peril 1998 fiat coupe 20vt.. I have owned better cars but unlikely to love a car as much as that one. only cost £6k as well and was immaculate

"only"220bhp 0-60 in just over 6 seconds but the turbo made it feel faster. I loved the design of them since they 1st launched esp with a body kit.

closest I will ever have to owning a prancing horse and a huge leap over the 1.4 pug 306 it replaced.

nissan 350z. great car somewhere in the middle of the above 2. 3.5l V6 sounded amazing . also was incredibly reliable. a superbly well made car.

An old battered Mazda 6 estate in NZ.

That thing kept on trucking and drove every single road of the South island.

It was cheap when we bought it, no worries about it being battered by drivers or the kiwi roads and we pretty much got our money back a few years later even after we saw it past it's 200,000 km birthday.

Loved that damned thing.

Probably my E30 325i sport with a 2.7 conversion. I was about 19, cost me a fortune to insure even back then. Not only was it an absolutely superb car that I dreamed about (and still do) because I was young me and my friends were out driving in it just generally having a great time. I miss those days a lot. Was about 2005/6. Amazingly there are still posts on this forum of me talking about it all those years ago.

I mean the car cost me a fortune to run and broke down all the time but she really was a beauty.

Octavia vRS.

Many reasons it was the best. I did a few minor mods which made it more individual to me. I went to the Nurburgring in it, car shows, meets. It was an integral part of my social life. It was also my work vehicle used to cart sometimes ridiculous amounts of kit around the county and beyond. So many memories and so many good times over the course of four years.

On the flip side it was also the least reliable car I've ever owned but we'll gloss over that with rose tinted glasses firmly in place.

Probably my Nissan Navara in its better days - decent seats, feel like you are ready for anything, not bad performance for a truck and very nice engine for a diesel. Doing very long journeys on a good road it actually rides pretty decent with smooth, effortless power and plenty of space to sit in. While it doesn't prevent it happening I find a significant reduction in the number of people who do silly stuff when on the road near you - especially a lot less people tailgate a semi-murdered out pickup though you still get some idiots.

My Skoda Yeti!
2.0 150 TDI, 4x4, reliable, comfortable, reasonable economy & insurance, with rear seats out (2 min job) it's a small van, tow hook, DAB radio and SD card slot, the front seat folds flat (forward) which was just amazing when we had a babies - table for changing nappies. The flat front seat provides an internal load space of over 8 foot - great for moving ladders, fence posts etc. It's the perfect car, coming up to 9 years old now, owned from new.

Probably an R33 GTR. I've had lots of Japanese turbo cars including other GTRs. I bought this one completely stock and built it myself. Learnt a lot and made a lot of mistakes. But because of it I can build anything, weld anything etc. as well as that if was just an amazing car to drive.

The sound was insane and it had a great road presence

I loved my Mondeo 2.5T. First ever "nice" car I owned (hand me down Fiestas before that) and a great combination of being very comfortable, fully loaded and a decent amount of power. And I could chuck anything in it. I miss it a lot and look on with envy when I see nice one out and about. Even though I did have to get the engine rebuilt :)

Can't pick just 1

My 2nd out of 4 CRX's, That car was built by a master.. Never put a foot wrong despite being driven like it was stolen... Managed to hit the rev limiter in top gear too.

A Skoda Fabia Vrs, I was working as a blood courier at the time. And this car paid for itself in fuel savings and would spin the wheels in the rain in 3rd gear... Surprised loads of people with how good that thing was.

Current M5 Competition. Proper Jekyll & Hyde. I still make a weird noise if i give it some off the line

99 Evo 6 GSR @ 366bhp. Loved that car. It could light up the entire county at night with the flames it would spit. What I remember most though was how tight it felt, the suspension/steering, the gearbox was rifle bolt precise. Enough power to have fun but not enough to get myself in too much trouble. Its the benchmark I hold every car I own to, performance not comfort. I've had other cars that I've been more emotionally attached to over the years like the 1988 Audi Quattro. However as far as a performance car goes the Evo will likely never be surpassed for me unless I'm in some sort of lottery win situation. I just cant justify a fun car these days.
