What is the best car you've ever owned and a brief reason why?

Toyota GT86. Had it just over 3 years, every day was fun. It went all over the place, Wales, Scotland and all over England. Even an 8 hour drive to Aberdeen was more fun than it should have been.

Tricky question. I don’t have a single best.

BMW i3s
Nippy, fun, efficient and an engineering marvel.

Panda 100hp
Nippy, fun, cheap and super reliable.

BMW 750is
Oiled silk. Fantastic looking, smooth with great performance.

Primera 2.0e GT
Just a great all round car.

Renault 5 GT turbo.
Not without some issues but just a fantastic car.

As per above, no genuine single best car:

330i E90 was a brilliant all rounder

Corolla GT Twin can (AE82) owned and loved a couple of them

MX5s, have owned 3

All the same, I’m going to nominate the S13 200SX that I owned.
The seats weren’t great, the handle on the sunroof broke and the engine was a little coarse. All the same, it made a great GT and could be easily drifted in nearly any weather, which made it ace fun.

I'd probably have to say the GT86 as well. It wasn't the quickest car I've owned, but it just felt right. If I sold the Elise and went back to one all-rounder car I'd have another one.

Coming up to 11 years with my GT86. Kept it after the PCP as there was nothing out there I wanted to replace it with. Was tempted with the GR86 but decided it was cheaper to upgrade the GT86 than to start another PCP.

For the price I can't think of a better car I'd want, especially now it's supercharged. It was my first new car, my first "grown up" car after years with my first car, the upgrades and modifications over the years have kept it interesting and different, but still affordable.

So many others have discussed their regret about selling/changing a car. I know this one I would, so I intend to keep it.

choice of two really.

My 89 plate XR3i (F829RYL). this thing was insane. Never missed a beat and was clean. Until my Spax suspension failed on a bend and threw me into some trees :(

Second was our Vauxhall Signum 2.0 CDTi. This was an ex demo so had everything attached. Incl suspension stabiliser when we used to tow our touring caravan. This thing was a tank and never let us down. Shame to have sold it tbh

2002 Toyota Yaris 1.4 diesel, went all over in it and did almost 70 to the gallon for the 50k+ miles i had it, it was more fun that it had any right to be to hoon around and you could drive it flat out most of the time as it only had 74bhp but weighing like 925kg it was a right hoot.

DC5 and Impreza STI's were fun and all but the Yaris is where my heart lies :(

Sound like the Twingo I had. I regret selling it more than most of the sporty stuff :D

I had a Smart Roadster Brabus coupe in silver which was a piece of crap in many ways, awful gearbox, leaked like a sieve..... but it put a huge smile on my face every time I drove it, great fun once you got the knack of working the box.

I had a Z4 3.0i for a few years which was a really solid car and sounded awesome but lacked the character of the Smart!

Triumph spitfire was the funnest car I’ve been in. Stripped back, no electronics, simple engine.

My current TTRS is the first car that has stopped me looking for anything else and has me struggling to find anything better for my needs. It’s just so ridiculously capable all year round, regardless of conditions. Sure, its not hugely involved, but you know you can just put your foot down and it’ll just grip and go. That’s all I want these days.

As an overall package and what we have got out of it, I would say our current Ford S-Max 2007 2.5T.
We've practically moved house with it, transported all manner of items/people in it for the last nearly 10 years and it's generally taken abuse and wear and tear really well. It drives like an actual car despite being a 7 seater bus, whilst still being able to flex to 5 or 7 seat capacity. It's had an off the shelf bluefin remap and puts out about 280bhp. It's quick enough vs very practical and I don't really know what to replace it with when it inevitably dies anytime in the near future. It's titanium spec level and has everything except heated leather I guess. I will massively miss it when it goes.

Best car I've owned is imo my currrent car which is a Golf R, does just about anything, practical, fast, reliable, reasonable mpg, a bit bland but suits me now I'm older. My favourite car I've ever owned is a Ford Sierra Sapphire Cosworth in the 90's, my favourite because of the good times me and friends had in it (it was a cracking car too, RWD 300bhp, not particularly reliable).

My FN2 Civic Type R. I traded in an extraordinary rough 350Z for it which leaked and burnt oil everywhere it went. The Civic was quicker over the black mountain in South Wales I used to regularly drive. It also just suited my driving style down to a tee. It was also amazingly reliable. I had to choose whether to take that or my regular 1.8 civic to Finland with me, and sadly I made the wrong decision and took the lesser car.

welsh mountains - yes it's as much the environment you have to enjoy the car, + the trips&passengers involved - natural environment of a i6/m52 was regularly pushing up alpine cols,
current flatland of Cambridge. Preceeding vectra 2L did some good road trips too, though, even w/o soundtrack, compensated by good L/100km, though;

special mention to a friends peugot 306 though which was a pretty mean tool on that climby stuff.
