What is the best monitor to get for gaming?

The Acer I got said it had a 2MS response time but it had ghosting everywhere. I'm not interested in getting the Acer 3D because I don't like their Dead Pixel Policy and I heard it wasn't good quality anyways. The Dell 27inch looks alright but the 6MS worries me, I hate ghosting and a review said it has ghosting in games.

I've always used CRTS and I love them but you can't buy them anymore. Like I just want a monitor that has the same quality as my old CRT. It had much better colours with black blacks and 100hrz with no lag or ghosting. Why don't they make them anymore? So much better and no Dead Pixels.

Thanx.

It is understandable that you are disappointed by the LCD monitors you have used so far, especially if you were using a good CRT monitor previously. A lot of people find the thinness, lightness and general kindness to the eyes of LCD monitors to be a large advantage. If colours are a concern as well as response times, I would suggest you seriously consider the Samsung XL2370 or PX2370. I have reviewed the XL2370 on my website and have used countless LCD panels - it is my favourite overall, especially for gaming. It is only 60Hz as apposed to 120Hz, but the overall responsiveness was still excellent and I have currently found no other TN panel that can match it for its image.

Yeh but it seems when I want a fast LCD, I end up having poor colours. Then when I want one with good colours, it has a ton of ghosting and even the fast LCDs have ghosting too. Also if you try to go out of native resolution the picture quality sucks. They're just horrible.

Trying to look for CRTs but can't find any nice 100+hrz ones anymore.

The recommendations I made are based on the best colours available from an LCD without compromising response time. Viewing angles and colour shifts are a different matter, but it sounds like you'd be a happier person once OLEDs are affordable and mainstream. I personally don't find any CRT viewing experience to be comfortable or natural so each to their own.

If you want good colours and a good gaming experience, you may want to consider an E-IPS panel like the Dell 2209WA.

Monitors using this technology have much better colours than their TN 6bit brethren (though still not as good a a more expensive IPS) and also perform well in games; with low response times and low input lag. Also, the 2209WA is supposed to be a 60Hz screen, but many people have it running at 75Hz with no problems.

Sounds to me as if he is particularly sensitive to response times, so I'm not sure that would cut it for him... Personally I find Dell's IPS panels responsive enough, but I still notice the difference between them and TN panels during fast movie sequences and FPS games. I only notice small amounts of ghosting with Dell IPS panels if I'm actively seeking them out - although some people are more sensitive to this. I also found the blacks and whites as well as overall contrast a bit better on the XL2370 - but they were by no means poor on t'other.

You see how bad it is with all the black (ignore the slow camera) and frigging every LCD I seem to get has the same problem. Now that Acer said 2ms but it really is about 7 on the benchmarks, so false advertising or something. The colours were also really dull like blacks were fine but any colours against white looked washed out.

The problem with all these monitors you're linking to is their latency is like 6ms and that is too much.

Also LEDs are too bright, they give me a frigging headache. When you turn down the brightness it destroys the quality :\

You think LEDs are too bright and yet you like CRTs?! Let me tell you that the XL2370 with brightness at around 70% and dynamic contrast disabled has a very natural looking image. They are far less likely to give you a headache or eyestrain than any CRT monitor. Are you highly photosensitive?

2-6ms?
That response time will never be visible, if it is, then its down to the quality of the monitor.
Also the Responce time companies use it the best response time, they may claim 2ms but the average could be 20ms in reality.

If you want decent colour and viwing angles go for a dell ips panel.
If you want fast gaming with minimal ghosting, get the panel i have (in sig) or the alienware. See this about the response rate ("Record Breaking").

Or, wait for decent OLED screen

I would go for the acer but my last one had 2 stuck pixels and Acer wouldn't replace the screen. So I don't want to buy another monitor from them again because you're very likely to get dead or stuck pixels.

I like the Dell policy where they don't even allow 1.

I have a T220 which has a 2ms response time and hey, also 4/5 in colour handling and responsiveness in DigitalVersus

Yet to see any ghosting. Or maybe I am seeing ghosting and I'm not bothered by it... hmm... how to prove ghosting when it's what your eyes see not what the computer sees...

I've played CS pretty much for 10 years and always stuck with the CRT due to always wanting 120hz. I recently bit the bullet and bought the Alienware AW2310 and wouldn't look back. Think it's a really good monitor, nice size and makes things far easier to carry to lan and feels quite comparable to the CRT's I've used.

same as above.. got mine delivered at 7pm last night and its realy nice.. super sexy controls.
did you get the deal on it? got mine £381 delivered :D
