What is the longest you have gone through a video game (PC / Console) without knowing a basic abilit

My brother, dirty PS3 player that he is didn't know about the XP Boosts on BF4 and how to apply them. He thought they were applied automatically. He had around 30 boosts in total to use!

I played about 20 scrolls games before realising all units could move...

I thought only specific ones could :(
tutorial even shows you as well oddly enough I must have rushed through it thinking arknor knows best :D

Played arma2 for 5-6 years. Only realised 2 months ago that shift+1 brings your on back weapon to primary. I always went into gear and moved it manually (This is with ACE mod btw)

There are many more i'm sure but this is the most recent that springs to mind. Me and a mate who were also playing for years both discovered it together.

Since then we always say shift 1 mother ****** when pulling out a shotgun or 203 or something.

About 2 years ago, I introduced a friend to X3 - being his first X game he dove straight into an open world/no plot game.

He didn't know about the SETA button (which lets a player fast forward the in-game time), so he used to aim his player-ship at a destination, go downstairs and have his tea, then regularly go back to his computer to make sure he hadn't crashed into a rock / been attacked / missed the jump gate. A delivery mission could last hours instead of minutes.

He played like this for a week.

Not the same but I played pc games for 4 years before someone told me that graphics on pc games were so much better than consoles. I debated this for hours before someone showed me how to change the screen resolution.
It was like a whole new world had been opened to me when I moved from 800-600 to 1024*768 or whatever the resolution was.

I've been playing Dark Souls recently and didn't realise there was a ladder that I could "kick down" to enable a shorter route. :o

Played Day-z for a good 2-3 months without realising that I could open my bag and access all the different slots.

Managed to keep one character alive for a good 20+ days just going on the standard inventory slots alone.

I know, I suck.

Recently finished Killzone on PS4, then had a look on Youtube to see how to do a few Trophies. Noticed they were sprinting in some areas.

Had gone through the whole game on "Normal" without running once.

In my defence walking is pretty fast so never felt I was wasting my time :D

I've logged around 50 hours on Battlefield: Bad Company 2 Vietnam and only found out last week how to change position in a vehicle.

Rememebr completing Quake on keyboard only before i realised that i could also use the mouse.

There must have been a few from me but nothing too glaringly bad I don't think, probably because I'm one of those boring gits who always R'sTFM!:(

I completed Freelancer without knowing about the thrusters.

So many encounters where this would have saved me having to reload 10's of times.

Found out about them whilst exploring afterwards :(
