What is the loudest part of your set-up?

The high bandwidth stream of expletives that issue forth from my big fat Irish gob when the machine fills it's nappy would be roughly 80dB(A) louder than any component.

I used to have a thermaltake volcano.....more than once I was asked by persons on the phone "where are you, it's really noisy"...and once I was asked "are you at the airport or railway station or someting?"

A pair of 5870 in crossfire, the noise is to the point where its now making me change them, under load its too loud for me, maybe I'm getting old! In a single card setup, they are completely fine, but in crossfire I just cant stand the noise of the fans anymore

@ Desktop it's my CPU fan but whilst gaming it's the fan on my 4890, I use head phones so don't care.

I got fed up with so-called quiet fans and components being anything but.

I've drilled a hole in the wall behind desk. The PC sits in the spare storage room with door closed. Even with this setup the HDs could still be heard at 2am if there was nothing else switched on in the house. So, I've gone one step further and removed those from the PC. They now sit in a large 30 year old chest of drawers using 1m sata cables. I could run a gtx570 at 70% fanspeed and not hear it.

head over to SPCR

How exactly would you know? Surely you would have to be able to shut off individual components and in the case of the PSU and the CPU HSF that is going to be a wee bit tricky ;)

The capacitor squeel from my PSU, strangely enough I only get it when the system ramps upto 100% load when Folding@home starts, it goes after 30 seconds or so then the rig is near on silent other than a soothing hum. The misses can't sleep with the PC off at night now.

When idle at desktop it's the pump, normal use will be HDD stuff going on and gaming will be cap squeal when the FPS get too high.

definately my 5850 under load. Anything above 50% is noisy as hell. Rear exhaust is a bit loud, but only when I crank it up while gaming. Under low settings, case is very quiet. Love my phantom :)

loudest by far at idol or under load is my processor fan.

the standard cooler for the AMD Phenom II x4 955 BE is unbelievably loud

quietest moving part is probably the power supply or hard drives, but its hard to tell when your processor fan is attempting to escape from its housing

My Antec 902's Case Fans on High Sounds Quite Loud, but with them on Low in a game the Graphics Card can be heard above them. (EVGA SC GTX 460 1GB)
