What is the name of the 3D picture technique?

I'm not talking about Stereograms either.

I'm watching Class Of 92 and virtually every still picture they show has got this technique where the people have been masked and the camera moves slowly producing a 3D effect.
What amazes me is that (eg) they could be standing in front of a tree on a 2D picture but this hardware/software somehow manages to show more of the tree (mind blown).

I've obviously seen this before but can only now be bothered to ask how it's done/what it's called.

No, they do it with old 2D photos.

It's the same thing is it not. They used to take them from the air as well so they could have 3D city/landscapes as intelligence.

It's a form of Stereoscopy

Assuming it's done old school and not done via computer and software (likely for the tv show) you have two cameras stuck next to each other and each camera takes a picture of the scene.
Because they are at a slight difference in angle they can be viewed via a set of 'glasses' where each eye looks at an individual image and you get the 3d effect.

You can buy stereoscopic cameras specifically for it now too

Cheers for that link / tutorial. I used to be a bit of a blender head many moons ago, before getting into photography. I think I may re download blender and give this a go with some of my own photos!
