WHAT!!! is this a **** take, GX2 could be $700+

So wait a min, Ultra is £300, so the GX2 is like gonna be £450, so if the GX2 ends up being 100% faster than the Ultra the'll go mental and overcharge like no tomorrow and they might be like £1000 :).

******* government, I tell you margaret is to blame for this

Times have moved on, Brown's in power now. :p;)

OT: This card smells of fail. In my situation, I would have to fork out for 2 very expensive cards and an expensive sli motherboard that will have more problems than a maths exam.

If I go the ati route, I just take out my card, shove in two X2's and fire everything up while keeping my nice and stable motherboard. :)

This is an absolute joke IF fud is correct.

Good news really though, we need ATI to have a strong period otherwise the competition will go down the pan.

How much do we reckon the 3870X2 is gonna cost?
Unfortunately I dont think £300 would be too far off for us poor brits

£250 is a pheasable buy for me personally

It'll be chaeaper than the nvidia counterpart that much is nearly certain. Id say around £275 max taking the usual first day price hiking into consideration. Probably down to £260 after a week or so.

I had assumed £400 for the 9800GX2, so doesn't supprise me.

It is 2 x 8800GTS... 8800GTS's retail at ~£210 each.. 210 x 2 = £420

Looks to me like it'll be the same for the GX2 then... i don't remember everyone getting so out of sorts about the Ultra when it was released at that price point?

thing is people WILL pay silly money for brand spanking new tech, when 2 x older chips are slapped together and canoodled into one card it's extracting the golden stuff. Nvidia as with any company recoup a lot of R&D costs from initial launches, with the progression of time the R&D becomes absorbed until the company show an extension into further profit on each unit sold.

given that we ( general joe public ) have paid the R&D costs for the chip it's a tad unfair of nv to hike it back to a premium again. they have made no bold advances, much of the tech will be liftted from the former GX2 design.

That means the 9800GTX will be £840 then.. Who's going to pay for the card after the 9800GTX at a MASSIVE £1680???? No one, it will never get to this price as when a new product comes out, it pushes the older products price down..
