It doesn't seem to look anything like any UK spider I can find. I don't see how it can be a recluse though as they are only found in the USA.

I hope it isn't anyway because I have no idea where it is now.

It's a male Common Orb Weaver (or Orb Web Spider as i knew them growing up reading Bugs! magazine [edit: apparently they're two different species, so ignore everything in brackets

And it looks a lot bigger than the stated 8mm (unless the pic/photo is very good at masking the proportional size - it just looks a lot bigger to me)

How big would you say the leg span was ?
