Amazon seems to be coming up with Matchbox 20 and Lifehouse, I've had Matchbox 20 recomended before anyone heard Lifehouse?

I used to really like lifehouse. The first album, No Name Face, is really very good, but the ones that follow it arent all that hot. Good, but not that good. If that makes sense!

i guess it's pretty lucky for me that music's pretty subjective then :p

havent seen that video you were waffling on about!!

Na, music isn't subjective, don't be silly :p

I'll link you to the video later on tonight on MSN.

Can't believe Jameroquai or however it's spelt hasn't been reccomended. Maroon 5 stole their sound, which JK stole from others. Either way, I thought songs about jane was a good album, repetative, but still easy listening. Didn't realise they were quite so uncool.

Well I bought Train - Drops of Jupiter a few months back purely on the strength of the title track and I quite like the album. Something More is fantastic :o

iTunes says Train is rock, so lets leave it at that :p

that's just wrong. jamiroquai sounds nothing like maroon 5 (or vice versa). the guy has a similar voice, but that's where it ends. jamiroquai is funk...maroon 5 is...well, whatever maroon 5 is. nothing like jamiroquai anyway. im shocked

I've also been known to break out the Genesis, Yes and Fleetwood Mac from time to time but I'm having trouble bringing myself to admit it in full size font :o

Absolutely nothing wrong with those bands, they're in my top 5/10!

I'm not an old bugger like you either.

:D

I'm quite offended at the term 'Dad Rock' and some of the above bands that are mentioned. At 47 I'm the youngest of my posse and most of the Dads are listening to Slayer, Rammstein, Metallica, System Of A Down, Iron Maiden etc. In fact my taste is getting harder and I've got bands like Cage, Converge, The Agony Scene and Throwdown lined up on my IPOD.

Dad Rock is what my 71 year old Dad listens to.

If you like Train/Maroon 5 etc, I'd say Matchbox 20 and Lifehouse should go down fairly well. Easy to listen to and - sorry, but MOR rock stuff :p

I saw both MB20 and Lifehouse live many years ago (Matchbox were actually supported by Maroon 5), and while they've both fallen out of my favour of late, I used to be very in to it. Tis nice enough and very easy going, just not outstanding. I'd recommend No Name Face as a Lifehouse album and Yourself or Someone Like You as a MB20 one- Though Mad Season is also fairly good. Steer clear of the latest releases from either band, imho.

i dont think Dad Rock is a term that's supposed to be taken too literally. it doesnt mean "you're a dad, listen to this music", it's just what your stereotypical dad would listen to. from your music taste and the things you'd do...i'd say you're not a typical bloke (ie. having a varied music taste, playing in a band) so you shouldnt be even the slightest bit offended by the term "Dad Rock" as it doesnt apply to you :)

Sometimes I contribute to another forum dedicated to Rock/Metal and of course all the members are from all over the world. About a year ago a thread was started about what kind of music your parents listen to and what ages they are. It transpired that all parents over 40 in other countries except Britain and USA were listening to some really old middle of the road crap while all the Brits/Yanks parents could easily swap music with their kids. I can remember the Scandinavians and South Americans being amazed that over 40's would be listening to the likes of Zeppelin, Sabbath let alone harder stuff like Slayer etc. Many times on these forums I've seen people commenting that their parents listen to hard rock and they knick their Dads albums to listen to.
