I've seen people commenting that their parents listen to hard rock and they knick their Dads albums to listen to.

Exactly what i do, bit of the Black Sabbath, Led Zeppelin, Pink Flloyd.

Ive taken quite a few of his albums, they are to name a few.

Nothing wrong with them, they may not be the same as today's music but to be quite honest some of the newer music doesn't compare with them.

all parents over 40 in other countries except Britain and USA were listening to some really old middle of the road crap while all the Brits/Yanks parents could easily swap music with their kids.

My dad is 59 and he listens to:

Donovan
Roy Orbison
Katie Melua
Elaine Paige
The Beatles
Beethoven
Chris de Beurgh (sp)
Beverley Craven
Emmy-lou Harris

To be fair I don't mind some of that, and I actually like The Beatles, but in general most of it isn't really my type of music at all.

Maybe when you say over 40s, its more a question of people in their 40s, and possibly early 50s. You mention Zeppelin, Sabbath and Slayer, but by the time they hit the big time, my dad had graduated and was probably less open to this new 'heavy' style of music. To be honest I've probably heard most of his record collection over the years and The Beatles is about as raucous as it gets.

Nail on head.
Most people reach a limit with their music in their teens and by time they reach their 20's everything else is noise.
I'm glad that most of the people who come to watch my band were those 'open' people because lots of them are approaching pensioner age. My lead guitarist is 59 and is fave band is System Of A Down.
