What is white privilege?

maybe different people see it different ways, general reaction in this thread is same as mine, first 2 mins is the worst, what a load of self indulgent crap, who the audience is matters not and please don't make those sorts of insinuations

my issue with the BBC is the left wing, politically correct bias

It's literally about mental health, and promoting that you look after yourself. What is wrong with that? Let's breakdown the video, as I'm convinced you've watched something else.

Self indulgent crap, let's have a look:

13 seconds - "ensure we take care of ourselves first". This is pretty sensible, would you not agree?

up to 26 seconds "many black people have been experiencing burnout". Again, true. It's audience is for black people, hence the reference but it's also true for non-blacks.

26 seconds onwards - a definition of burnout, including informing on symptoms and reminding that these can be physical or emotional. Again, a good thing to be highlighting, no? Speaks of triggering, again, entirely reasonable. I know of people who get upset about seeing things on TV which they've been through. Including videos of war, and descriptions of rape.

I'm a minute in, and yet to see any "self indulgent crap", but I do see someone advocating looking after your own mental health.

Minute plus - Speaks of "not living or enjoying life - we are constantly surviving". - Again, entirely true for non blacks and blacks. Many people aren't living, they are existing pay check to pay check, in poor jobs, poor housing, etc. Add to this the challenges of minorities then it's entirely reasonable to conclude people are living this way. Just because you don't, or may not be able to empathize with this due to your background (I'm not casting aspersions here, I've no idea what your background is. However, if it's not one described in the previous sentence then I see how you can't relate to that).

1 minute 10 - asks, what can I do to cope with burnout? Details coping mechanisms, namely to acknowledge issues, and talk to people about it. Telling men to talk about their problems, and seek help isn't self indulgent crap, it's an essential thing that we, as men, should be promoting.

1 minute 54 suggests identifying a list of people you can trust. Again, very important. If you are going to open up, then you should do it to someone who you trust.

So, please tell me why it was self indulgent crap? Why is promoting healthy mental health, and providing solutions and ways to help with that self indulgent crap?

People don't things that are specifically for the blacks. They think that's racist and/or part of a marxist plot to groupthink our way to non-white supremacy in our green and pleasant land. After all where's the equivalent "how to deal with burnout when your white" segment?

I feel that this is the explanation for your outrage, but I'm happy to be proven wrong. However you failed to answer and of my questions so it's difficult for me to understand your outrage. I've watched the video three times, once after your posted it. I then watched it again to understand your outrage and I've now rewatched it to answer your points. If I'm missing something, let me know, but perhaps you (and those you refer to as the "general reaction" ought to rewatch it too).

I mean in your post you've agreed most of this also applies to non-blacks, yet it's making out as if this a problem exclusive to black people, it's portraying them as unique as victims for mental health struggles and feeling burned out. It's pushing them to feel victimised. All sensible advice which can be applied to anyone, yet is framed as if only black people have these problems, literally why? That's why it's crap.

Its indulgent because the defacto position is that only black people are getting burned out by all this BLM stuff.

Otherwise it would just talk about people and not 'black' people. I dont see a similar video on the BBC for non black people , so is this discrimination based upon colour?

It's on the alt history, as in, the non-white history, section of the BBC website. You're literally getting outraged that a section that is centered towards non-whites exists. Do you hate Radio 3 because it doesn't play music that the majority of the country listens to? You are looking for things to get angry about, it's bizarre.

English newspapers report on things happening in Scotland, I'm sure. However, I read Scottish ones because I believe they 'speak' to me more and I can relate to them. Is this self indulgent?

You guys are turning into a complete parody.

So in the black history section we have something that is neither history nor applicable only to black people. Absolutely fantastic use of license payer money but at least the BBC gets to tick a box for content aimed at black audiences.

The thing is i am hardly outraged. I am merely pointing out the hypocrisy. And that if it was the other way around it might be classed as white privilege...

OK

Of what?

Be careful what you say

Or say what you mean and we will go from there

Snidey accusations of racism are just pathetic

I don't and haven't accused you of anything. It's clear that you either can't counter my points because you agree with me (which I don't get why you don't say that - you are allowed to admit being wrong) or you are outraged and upset by the video because it's catered for black people. You haven't provided a third argument, so that's all I can conclude. If you're unhappy with how that presents you, it's not my fault you've forced people to reach that conclusion.

To get upset about a video promoting positive mental health is quite hilarious if it wasn't true. Perhaps you should rewatch the video and take some tips from it? Talking is OK!

And just repeating your accusations

That sentence doesn't make sense to me. Can you clarify?

I'm literally trying to understand why you're upset/angry/speechless about this video and why you consider it self indulgent crap. I'm asking reasonable questions, I've provided a reasonable analysis of the video (which people in your camp agree with) yet you still can't answer them or provide anything other than nonsensical half-sentences. It's odd.

Furthermore, what actually led you to that video?

I suppose it's up to others how they view you, but you've taken a position against a video promoting healthy mental health for black people for reasons you refuse to explain.

Great discussion. 10/10.

You could argue its a populist video designed to fan the flames, referencing known career criminal and drug addict George Floyd in an attempt to continue the pretext of white on black crime being more significant than black on black crime.

Doesn't the fact that everyone bar you had the same viewpoint as me suggest it may be you that's wrong

Anyway no more replies, better stuff to do, lynchings, burning crosses etc
