What is your BMI?

According to my fancy scales mine is 26.4, however my muscle mass is a decent chunk of that. Don't think I'm too bad tbh apart from my bmi changing, I'm 5 foot 10 for reference. I'd say reasonable muscled body. I'm not sure a number is needed something though, there's certain people who must know they are obese but just don't like being told they are. A guy I work with is out of breath just climbing stairs:eek:.

You want to get that visceral fat down buddy, you're whats known as skinny fat (like me) somewhat hereditary and not good for you as visceral fat is fat round your organs....

How do these scales know your far percentage ect?
bio-electrical impedance

They measure the rate at which a low-level electrical current travels through your body.
Different tissues in your body allow the electrical current to travel at individual speeds. Fat is more resistant than muscle or water, so the higher the resistance, the higher the body fat percentage calculation is likely to be.

Mine gives different readings at different times, I’ve never really trusted it.
It will do if you don't have a **** first or have just come out the shower, or are dehydrated or just eaten..

You should do it in the most similar situation as possible, which for me is wake up, take a leak, stand on scale, get dressed..

Interesting, will have to get myself some scales at some point
Amazon - "

RENPHO Body Fat Scale Bluetooth, Digital Body Weight Bathroom Scales" should get you in the ballpark..

There are a number of different ones at different prices, I have a USB rechargable one, some don't have bluetooth so no app integration with that one so be mindful of which one you pick.
Pretty sure I'm not allowed to link directly

First thing in the morning. For example the app says my body type is slightly chubby… I barely have any body fat.

If you look at my history it’s up and down like a yo-yo.

Maybe not such great scales then?
Mine is rock solid, I take it at least every week day morning as it's just routine now.

They don't, it's somewhere between a total guess and a rough guess
Thing is, even if they are inaccurate, they still give you an accurate trend line...
I sat on my ass in the motorhome for three days over bank hol and stuffed cookies and cake and costa coffees in my face.. Results trended upwards as you'd expect. Whether I'm actually 24% BF or not doesn't really matter as long as the number goes down over time and the physical results tally with that "guesswork".

Your fancy scales are wrong or you've entered the incorrect height there as I'm the same height as you and that would be closer to a BMI of 28.

Edit - You've likely put yourself in as 6ft not 5'10... the square root of 88.25/26.4 = 1.8283m (to 4.dp) = approx 6ft

Also...

Accuracy

Some studies showed that bioelectrical impedance analysis is a reasonably accurate method for estimating body fat. But these research studies generally do not test the scales you find in the store.2

Experts generally agree that the accuracy of the measurement depends, in part, on the quality of the device. In addition, other factors may affect a reading when you use a BIA scale.3

  • Body weight: Bioelectrical impedance analysis may be less accurate in people with obesity.
  • Hydration level: Dehydration may cause fat-free mass (muscle and bone) to be underestimated.
  • Recent exercise activity: High-intensity exercise may affect the accuracy of BIA readings.
  • Training load: Some scales have a setting for athletes who train more often. The settings are intended to increase accuracy.
  • Recent food or drink intake: The results of a study suggest that BIA may be more accurate after overnight fasting.4

Some researchers also say that ethnicity can affect the accuracy of BIA measurements. Overall, studies show that this method is not very accurate although it may be able to track change over time, your results are unlikely to reflect your actual body composition.5
