What is your definition of a Supercar?

Of course it's a sports car. It's designed with some performance in mind.
M5 - Sports Car

The one with
The supersaloon shootout
Series 10, Episode 10 (2007)

A car we haven't even featured wins our coveted award and David Tennant Doctors our reasonably priced car. Well, ruins the gearbox at least. The boys also test supersaloons in Spain...

Which are: BMW M3, Audi RS4 and Mercedes C63 AMG......

It's a term that's being around for years, so like i say the M5 is a Super Saloon, not a sports car.

Another good point regarding the Atom, the same could be said about the caterham R500 but then again as Will Gill pointed out about the Noble, can they really be classed as exotic?

Super saloon, a type of sports car.

In the same way a Sports car is a kind of GT?

No.

A sports car, typically (but not always) has two doors, rear seats which you can't use, is geared towards driver fun not comfort, doesn't matter about power or speed its all about driver fun.

What are the links trying to prove? Just because a car can be given a more specific definition, doesn't mean it doesn't fit into the broader category of sports car. Imagine a decent performing hot-hatch, it's designed to be decently quick for what it is, making it a type of sports car. It's also a hatchback.

No that would be a Hot Hatch, they invented the term Hot Hatch because it was no longer a normal hatchback it it isn't a sports car.

Or was the guy who came up with the name wasting his time?

Makes me wonder what track day drivers think in there super expensive super, hyper cars when a £30,000 so called kit car (Ariel,Westfield etc) drives past. Alright they dont compare in any way other than performance, but i wouldn`t be happy to see it go past a middle of the road £350,000 supercar if i had one on the basis you buy a supercar for its performance.

A Veyron not being considered a hypercar
M6 isn't even a saloon, it's a coupe

Woops, meant forgot it was a Coupe.

I don't think the Veyron is a Supercar. It just doesn't look silly enough. Hypercars are those cars which look really fast even when not moving.

Compare the Zonda/Enzo/Diablo to the Veyron. The Veyron all be it a very nice car, just doesn't look as good as they do.

I assume you meant to type hypercar.

I can't think of anything about it that is not 'hypercar' material.

That looks pretty 'hypercar' to me.

XKR - Sports car - although is more GT focused.

XFR - Pretty much the same car but drops in the super saloon sector if you ask me.

Sports car really refers to a typical old school FR 2 seater with a convertible roof. XR3i isnt really a sports cari s it?

first time I heard "Hypercar" thrown about was with the Enzo and Carrera GT.

I honestly think the definition changes a lot in a persons mind the more access they have to faster and more up market cars.

I used to class the Ferrari 360 as a super car but I've just realised now that I really do think of it as a sports car these days, same with the new 458. The Gallardo I class as a sports car but the murcielago I class as a super car, All pretty strange really.

Why not? So a car can only be defined by one specific thing, negating everything else?

So should a Megane 225 be classed as a hot hatch, small family car and a sports car?

Go look which category these things come under in major publications and official review sites.
