Whats the lowest FPS you can stand before you go into 'options' and start turning stuff off or reducing resolution to try and sort out that cr&p screen update?

Me? Any less than 25FPS and I'm turning off 'view distance = 3 miles' and 'shadows = ultra quality' no matter how nice they look!!

What FPS before you think 'Nope -- looks very pretty -- but too jerky for me to tolerate -- I'm optioning stuff out'???

(This thread inspired by Cryostasis being the biggest compromise of turning stuff off EVER to try and get a half-decent frame rate)

Probably around 20 for me. Some games cope better at lower frame rates than others. Crysis for one still looks somewhat smooth even at a low fps due to motion blurring and what have you.

Depends on the game, some you can't notice that its running at 20 fps, others you can notice if it drops below 50. All depends on whats happening on screen.

it depends on the game for me, i can put up with 30 but in some games it has to be 60

i always stick all the settings to max when i first run a game (minus any aa options) and if i cant play it like that then i wont go near it again until i have a system that can run it

i dont look for fraps every game, if it appears smooth to me, and doesnt annoy or feel like its lagging, i dont care, but if i was to pick a number, 60 i would choose !

For FPS games - 40fps for single player, 60-100fps for multi depending on the game.

Some other games I can accept lower, but nothing under 30fps.

Personally tho I like high framerates because not only does it look smoother - a lot of games also feel more responsive at higher framerates even when your not actually physically seeing any extra data.

30 acceptable. 50ish for it to feel really smooth and nice.

I got used to 20-40 fps for a whole year when i had a bad PC for css. but now all my games run smooth as over 60fps....that....or its an RTS which doesn't matter if its very low fps.

It used to be 30FPS, but then I got a 24" LCD and I feel under 60FPS in FPS etc isn't enjoyable. However for RTS etc then 30FPS+ is fine :)

It really depends on the game for me. Generally 60 is the minimum I aim for, especially in any multiplayer game, where 60+ is a must. However, in some games I can tolerate lower than 60, Crysis for instance still feels smoothish at around 40, where as that kind of framerate in Fallout 3 feels very sluggish to me. The camera in some games just seems to handle lower framerate better than others.

That said, generally any game at lower than 35 becomes unplayable for me.
