What is your view on Dx10?

did some counter strike source tests...it seems sp1 has made a difference.

vista 117fps
xp 133fps

not much difference there at all.....using latest drivers on both OS's

what was more noticeable though was that vista seemed more jerky in playback of the demo even though both didnt really drop below the fps cap i had set....it could be just down to those particular drivers not suited to the game.

the last time i ran this test without sp1 there was a massive difference between the 2 regarding fps

Vista has been universally welcomed, and far more popular at release than 98 or XP ever was. Vista makes XP look like Windows ME.

Lol !

All it adds is some security rubbish nobody needs ( but security freaks or companys, not gamers like me though), dx10, superfetch, readyboost, much worse compatibility ( it ***** itself after just one minor chipset change) and aero. Aside that it's just a small interface up/downgrade.

I can appreciate superfetch, readyboost and aero, nothing more though.

I like Vista after lots of tweaking. Was an pain in the rear at first. Have a dual-boot PC and haven't booted into XP in about a month.

To my surprise, Vista has actually solved a few problems I was having with older games in XP.

As for DirectX 10, I don't think it fundamentally changes anything. Can't complain about how my DX10 games run though.

Interesting.. Good of you to have run the test again. As you say /re the jerkiness, could well be the drivers or some obscure setting. Have you tried on either of them setting it to single core? Sometimes (with XP) on my c2d machine I get hitching/slowness if I don't change the affinity.
