What makes you go 'wow'?

did it in physics the other day(to do with audio signals digitally).

It's something like you can make numbers with sequences of 0 and 1.

in audio, if for example each value sampled for the amplitude of the sound at that time was measured and recorded in say, 4 of those digits(0 and 1) then if you added them up, you would get either an even or an odd number.

eg:

0101 = 0+1+0+1 = 4. This is not what 0101 represents, but it is an even number.

As there are only two options(0 and 1), then it is easy to add an extra value after each group of 4.

EG: for the 5th value, 0 = previous 4 are even, 1 = previous 4 are odd.

So,

0101 would be followed by 0 as they are even when added together.

This means the computer can work out if there is a 0 or 1 missing
eg:

0X01 0 would mean it should be even, but there is a digit missing. 0 + x + 0 + 1 = 1 +x. It is not even if x is 0, therefore X must be 1.

Which is how cds work, simply, if I remember rightly. So the Par thing might be like that.

Kick ass design. It doesn't have to be computer related. Aston Martin D9 anyone, a Tag Heur watch, Versace suit, Bang and Olufsen Entertainment systems, Mac Book Pros, Forumula 1 cars, Abromavich's yacht, European parliment buildings etc.

Data Satellites.

(Of which I know you know much about dmpoole!)

I just think the technology is incredible. How I can receive perfect video and audio with a tiny little dish from a satellite ~22k miles away!

My baby learning stuff. Like, how does she suddenly figure out that when I tickle her, it's funny. Or how does she start out utterly unable to do anything, but now she's learning to put a spoon in her mouth and pick things up.

HOW DOES SHE LEARN!

It's just incredible. It's like a computer writing drivers for itself. It's nuts.

I would have to agree with you baby's ROCK!

Mother Nature's fury.

I've had the fortune/misfortune of witnessing some incredible storms and floods as well as the aftermath of a twister. Quite breathtaking and quite humbling.

Looking up on a clear night at the moon and the stars. Send a shiver down my spine, thinking of the sheer scale, the infinity and how small we really all are.
