What "man jobs" have you done today?

I can't tell if you're joking but I don't care. That's what I'm using, thanks for the idea. I was going to completely patch it up properly but **** it.

Not joking, it's great for stuff like this. Fill the void as much as possible and then plaster it up with some one coat plaster, sorted. I'd dab some PVA mixed with water over the foam and the edge of the plasterboard before adding the plaster, just so the differing suction backgrounds dont cause it to crack.

I had what seems a common problem where the boiler doesn't click on but the light is green. Replaced a capacitor in the wireless receiver (Drayton / BritishGas) and everything's back to normal; heating goes on when the thermostat tells it to. New box is around £40 or £5 for the new cap and some time spend soldering. :)

Anyone fitted UPVC architrave? Does it look guff or is it alright?

What will you be using it for? The flat trim for making good when you install a window is also called architrave and can be used as an actual architrave, but looks really naff. Theres also some thicker stuff that has a moulding to look like torus architrave, but imo its also a bit naff, but I guess it could be useful in a room that gets a lot of moisture like a bathroom.

Are you closing it with a TRV or the cap ?

I don't have the cap to fully close the valve. If I put a brick on the pin to hold it in, it does shut off supply, so the valve is not faulty. I tried putting some coins inside the TRV in an attempt to fully close the value, but no luck.

Ideally I need the dust cap for it, I'm amazed at how impossible they are to acquire. They are like a mythical entity which people speak of, but don't actually exist. It seems silly. I bet it is such a common thing which people need.

So I'm after something which will close the valve while I can fiddle around with the radiator.

I used a mini G clamp. the end you tighten down had a little metal cup that was perfect for centering onto the pin.

What make are the valves? I have some spare danfoss caps.

Today I replaced the shower in the en suite. It died when I was having a shower on Sunday morning taking out the RCD in the process. It worked to a limited extent but the flow was so poor that it was barely enough to rinse my hair.

So at lunchtime I took the old one off, put a new one and and have just silicon sealed around the casing.

It wasn't the most difficult job on the world but took longer than expected because the water fitting on the old shower was so tight that I struggled to get it undone.

he was just thankful it wasn't any of the kids that was in it at the time

I repaired 4 floor joist ends after they were found to be rotten. They now feel completely solid! 4 huge coach bolts in each, a timber connector in between the joists. Solid. Really happy with the job, and much better than the previous owner's repair attempts.

Just one more to do now

Not quite today as it's had to fit around commitments and drying times etc... but hopefully you'll let me off :)

Garage started like this (already fitted strip lights, energy saving bulbs were pants in there)

Painted the old doors and handles and project complete - just need to adjust all the doors and then fill the garage back up now (read empty dining room of wheels/tools etc)
