What "man jobs" have you done today?

Power washed the drive way yesterday only took 2 hours and gave it a bit of a scrub... Who knew it was red bricks. :D looks a million times better. Just need some dry sand now.

Did a bit of gardening today along with laying some chippings on the outside of my fence before the path just to prevent weeds growing there (membrane down first). Ground was fairly sodden though so need to hope it is a clear week so i can get more weeds up. Giving myself 3 weeks before i get top soil and sharp sand for finally getting my lawn started!

Moved outside table from winter hibernation in the garage...

Then went out on the Motorbike for the rest of the day (Snakes pass still cold)

Been slowly sorting out my garden, the previous owners had let most things get out of control. There was an old rotten shed in one corner (although nowhere near the end of the garden weirdly). I got it removed and a concrete base laid last week and I'm putting up a fairly cheap Yardmaster shed for some garden stuff. Just the roof left to do, after looking at a YouTube video I'm going to assemble it on the ground and put it on in the week.

Made a bedside table. Legs are old pallet supports painted in chalk paint I had sat in the shed left over from another job. The top is side grain plywood I had going spare, it's had a few coats of danish oil. Quite pleased with the result.

I've been on a mission to finish all of the storage in our renovation as we've got clutter hanging around with no obvious place to live.

That looks spot on! I need to get round to making something like that to cover the wooden box at the top of the stairs in the box room.

A productive weekend for me, although I didn't start the job I'd planned on doing. I need to get all the woodwork downstairs sanded and painted before I get the new flooring done in a few weeks but ended up doing everything else instead. I got the new blinds put up in the living room to replace the horrible old metal ones that had been up since we moved in. When I took them down there were dates inside from 1983! What should have been a simple job ended up taking a few hours as I there was nothing for me to screw the new blinds too in the ceiling of the bay window. I ended up having to pull some of the plasterboard down slide a batten in and screw them to this.

I also brutalised the hedge at the top of the garden as it was beginning to take over a bit so I've gained an extra metre of space and finally got around to building a frame for my finger board so I could mount it away from the wall in the garage.

Just finished lifting 2 layers (270mm) of insulation from the loft. All bagged ready for the dump.

Cleared up 3 dead rats plus their s41t which was everywhere along with the rat poison the previous owners had thrown up there.

My OCD kicked in so bought a cheap vacuum from Argos and painstakingly vacuumed up every square inch of the loft before laying down brand new 100mm base layer of insulation.

Loft legs, 200mm insulation and chipboard down next to create a bit of storage

Yes, yes they did - already fixed the leaking toilet cistern and had to get a plumber in to replace a really sh**ty incorrect waste pipe connector. Made him retch. Oh and they used a shower waste pipe thing under the bath with the overflow pipe just hanging in mid air. ;)

I never get why people bodge things like that, the old guy who lived in my house before me was awful for it. Most things were either bodged himself or I think were done by the cheapest cowboys he could find.

I don't envy you one bit, that's one of the worst jobs in the world! I did mine before the winter last year as I had less than 100mm of patchy insulation up there.

Had the day off yesterday as my new living room carpet was being fitted in the morning and my new sofas were being delivered in the afternoon. After the carpet had been fitted it I had time to start building the new furniture.

Started off my fitting the new radiator cover (bought one from B&Q that was unpainted which I painted over the weekend whilst I had an empty room and thus lots of space, I gave it one coat of sealer/undercoat first using a brush to ensure it was all covered, then gave it 3 coats of the silk emulsion I used on the walls giving it a light sanding between each coat to just remove any bumps). The cover is supposed to be fixed to the wall using 3 brackets, I really didnt fancy drilling into the walls and I discovered that if I placed one bracket on the radiator itself it was the perfect height for the top to rest on, I then used a couple of Command strips (one at each end) to hold it to the wall and stop it tipping forward.

Then I built a side table, a bookcase, a sideboard and started the TV unit before the sofas finally turned up at about 5.30. Once they were in I finished the TV unit and built the coffee table.

Also used some command strips to stick the router, hive hub and small switch to the rear of the sideboard so they were fully usable but completely out of sight. Also used the command strips to put up 8 A3 framed prints.

So almost empty room to fully furnished in the day.

Now I just have to sort out all the electrical stuff into the TV unit and work out what decorations I want where (only thing I have out at the moment is my little T-REX skull).

today i lifted the patio up and took out all the sand base under it

my gardens raised up and right against the house (and looks like no damp proofing between) so i'm going to dig it out and take it away from the house then build a retaining wall for it and re-lay the slabs lower down

got 14m3 of soil to dig out now and carry through the house as have no rear entrance :(
