What "man jobs" have you done today?

Finally got round to getting a network socket installed in front bedroom. damned hot up in the attic today, even with the rain.

although good to see still no leaks.

now sitting with beer outside, waiting for last bit of sun. clouds!

After 20 years of cutting our hedge with hand shears i got a hedge trimmer and what normally was a weekends blood sweat and tears has turned into 30 minutes of ease.

Thanks. I applied some decking oil on all the surfaces, will reapply every year to freshen it up.

To hold them together I use coach screws and then decking screws at the top for the decking. Counter sunk them. It's a relatively easy build since everything is done with screws so nice and quick.

I might go out to get 1 plank of decking and finish off the bottom.

Cheers.

Was the timber pressure treated?

yeah, I bough all C16 treated timber.

To prevent (or reduce chances of) rotting all feet are raised with a nut then with a screw in feet inserted which gives me a 25mm play to adjust for ground levels. 2 birds 1 stone.

One last question!
Did you drill pilot holes? I do when I build planters out of decking, but not sure if I really need to.

Thanks.

I did, I put pilot holes for the top piece, so the screws are not gripping the top and only grips when it hits the bottom then it pulls them together.

Nice, did the same to mine last year. Well worth it just for the reduced cement dust from the floor alone.

Just had my old 1970s up and over door replaced with a new sectional door which finished it off.

Thanks, yeah makes it a lot nicer to be in there.
Can anyone suggest how I can stop dust from getting under the door? Because it gets under, the breeze carries it to the end and settles in the corners.
Some sort of strip to put just behind the door or something?

You can get 'garage door weather strips' that is a rubber strip that fits to the bottom of the door. You can also get 'garage door brush strips' that fit to the bottom of the door too. I used those on my old wooden side hinged garage doors and that stopped all the debris for me (usually lots of leaves).

I had my up and over door changed on my new house garage to a roller door which ii seals very well all the way around. This is obs a costly option :D

Got this on my floor - shut the door -push strip up to door -mark floor with chalk along back of strip -remove- squirt and stick down - That stixsall is good stuff.

Might be cheaper on Ebay

Quick sanity check - PIR lights.

Does this look right? I have two sets of lights (3 + 1) outside and want to reconfigure and add PIRs with one set having 2 in parallel.

Behold! Paint skillz.

Note: The switches are just for on/off for maintenance purposes, not intended for manual override.

Today I learned how to re-fit the main drive belt to my Stiga ride-on mower after it decided to throw it. To be fair, I was cutting some very chunky weeds on an uphill slope at the time...

There was swearing. The owner’s manual was hopeless, but the spare parts document had a very helpful picture.

Those PIRs look to be in series, so it would take both of them to activate to switch the lights connected to JB2 on.

Paint skillz not mad enough :(
Both PIRs are live and the switched lives are linked. So the switched live should activate when either PIRs are triggered.

Had some quotes for my driveway.

Dimensions are: L = 20ft & W = 22ft so roughly 37m².

Cheapest quotes are:
Gravel with block borders around perimeter £1950
Tarmac with block borders around perimeter £2500
Standard block paving £2400
Tegula trio paving £2800

Leaning towards tarmac for the durability and easy maintenance.
