What "man jobs" have you done today?

Thanks @Gary* I've already got the first coat of grey gloss on. All of the other banister grey bits have just had their second coat, looks good atm. Will look even better when the grey carpet goes down too.

@HungryHippos Looks great bud :D Have you thought about getting an 'intu' blind which clips in behind the glass? I have them in my ensuite, master bedroom and kitchen patio doors and they work really well. Easy to remove if you ever need to as well.

I already bought the blinds they've been sat in boxes in my kitchen for a couple of months! :D

If they don't work out for some reason I'll look at the Intu ones. These should mount to the window frame OK but the tiling has removed some of the available window frame space.

Electrician is starting work on the CAT6 and power runs soon so that will be good, tomorrow based on what he said. That will leave a bit of fixing up to do so I'll probably use the "DIY" mode status to tackle the blinds as well, right now i'm in cleaning mode, think the house is about as clean as it's ever been! :D

I had my bathrooms done almost a year ago along with other stuff in the house.

Today decided it was finally time to clean my tiles properly as the fitters had only done a cursory job.

Went over every tile in both bathrooms with hot water and a micro-fibre cloth, got as much of the leftover grout and things off as I could. Wish I did it sooner really as the result is even better than before! :)

Next up will be installing the blinds, can't easily drill through those tiles so I'm hoping I can affix to the window frames instead.

Main Bathroom (weird shape hard to get in 1 pic):

Some of the grout in the main bathroom appears to be discoloured, not sure how to fix it. It's meant to be quite a uniform light grey colour like the ones on the floor.

When I first opened this post I thought you were going to say "put some tiles up" or "finished grouting" and I was going to say well done that looks really nice, but Im also a big fan of cleaning.

So well done that looks really nice. :D

Thanks, just finished cleaning the shower and things, I really hate cleaning the bathrooms tbh but the result is usually worth the effort! :)

The tile cleaning stuff was just an additional job I'd had waiting around for a while beyond the usual. Next on that list is to get rid of some paint flecks that wound up on the wooden flooring in the hallway.

Hah, fair enough.

I was thinking your cat6 / power socket install was going on around this time. It'll be ace when its done :D Do you have some left over paint to make any touch ups if needed? I am really neat when installing new socket locations but I still find I end up needing to decorate around them before I am happy.

No but I need to get some more paint anyway as some touch up work to do, and some more gypsum as well.

My robo vac fell down the stairs a while back and took a chuck out of the wall so got that to fix up too!

How much were your blinds if you don't mind Mr Hippo? They look spot on. Sleek, minimal and still block out lots of light.

If you did mean mine, they were not cheap but could be because I have 3 'blinds' on my master bedroom window. It cost £310inc VAT and fitting. A lot of money but so worth it.

P.s They do block out a lot of light but without the curtains, the morning summer sun that hits them still lights up my room enough to wake me up at 5am!

@fobose - I think he meant yours as I have no blinds on display! :D

Electrician made a start today, much to my surprise everything has gone far too smoothly so far. He's coming back on Thursday to connect everything up and sort the trunking out. The external cable still needs to be run as well.

Network boxes in the lounge, study, and master bedroom are all in, with cable runs in place (but not connected up yet).

Power sockets to loft and bedroom wall connected up and in place.

Best of all no damage to fix really, he had to remove the lightswitch box in the 3rd bedroom to fish the cable properly, so a bit of filling needed for that, but no actual holes to fix at all.

Managed to get the lounge networking cable into the stairwell void and out back into the cupboard, so that cable is running internally which is awesome. Only one port but he's run a 2nd length of cable in there which I can use if the 1st one ever dies for some reason.

Sweet :D Any pics yet @HungryHippos?

I have some but it's not exactly super exciting!

Study CAT6, this will be dual cabled. This is an internal wall and is close enough to where I need it to be really. Should be fine. The wall with the plugs on is an external wall.

This is the lounge CAT6 socket that has been run from the stairwell void back into the cupboard. Speaker will sit in front of it, trunking should be going in at the skirting level tomorrow.

This is the power + double CAT6 which sits behind the TV in the master bedroom. I had a leftover power socket from a pack I bought, so it matches the others I have :)

This + the study ones run into the loft space near the loft hatch, which is where my switch is installed.

Electrician will be connecting it all up tomorrow and completing the external cable run from the router under the stairs, into the loft, and then into the switch.

Once done this should give me 1Gbe everywhere that I need it.

Looks very neat so far! Well worth it when it is all completed. My house has crabtree plug sockets so I have just bought identical ones when I added more to my garage and understair cupboard. I also found the crabtree euro module face plates for my network ports. I bought some tool station cat6 euro modules themselves but they all look like they match.

Swapped out our old dishwasher which was on its last legs

For a cheap second hand one off Facebook until we get round to the new kitchen

Relatively straight forward although had to use a tinder core bit to widen holes in the unit carcasses for the power cable (fixed plug) and feed / drain pipes
