What "man jobs" have you done today?

I made some drawers under the stairs, quite please with how they came out. It was just a walled up space originally, seemed a shame not to make something of it.

that is so clean and is almost exactly like my setup, however I have my TV in front of that. However my stairs stick out enough to allow for a TV stand etc

A rather unsuccessful day chasing a water leak from the toilet.
Changed the soil pipe & gone through all the pipework I can but still leaking when flushed.
Thought it may have been the bottom of the cistern, but access is rather limited without dismantling half of the bathroom.

Given up for tonight, but will try again tomorrow :(

Deep cleaned the sink area, sanded and oiled the oak worktop around it. It's one year old and already stained dark where people splash the edges. Should probably take pics to track deterioration...

Continuing to sort out all the shoddy DIY around our new house.

Yesterday, pulled all the skirting boards off in one of the bedrooms. They had basically been glued and slapped against the wall. Huge gaps and half hanging off in places. Refitted them properly, just need painting now.

I've got 10 in the garage ready to hang, I'm not looking forward to it. Any tips for a novice?

Don't be afraid to plane the door to fit better in the opening, several of mine where needing scribed at the top due to a little bit of settlement in the house. Pack the door until it meets the top of the frame and scribe the difference then have at it with the plane. Pack again but leave a small gap at the top and mark your hinges, cut hinges flush with the timber and hang the bugger. You may also have to pack the hinges if you have too large a gap at the latch, cardboard is your friend here.

Park Drive or Woodbine packets were made for packing wooden stuff -Lets see who knows what they are. :D

The best tip I can give you is get a door hanger in -- or practice on the door that is hidden somewhere first.

Went to my mum's and hung the big photo collage we sent for her 70th birthday last week. Even the smallest jobs become a saga at mum's and I end up home late...

They work well but smoking a whole pack of cigars makes me feel a bit queasy while hanging the door :D

Thanks @eddiemcgarrigle, very helpful. Were in a fairly modern house with ‘fairly’ square and flat floors which should make life simpler. I should I theory be able to use the existing doors as templates as I work through the house.

@DXP55 I do plan on practicing my rebating skills on one of the existing doors before I make a start for real. I will be using a mini router to do the rebating rather than relying on my skills with a chisel alone.

Mini router seems a bit of a faff when sharp chisels will do the job in next to no time. Still, I'm a bit of a retro Joiner as I don't like using drills for screws and use my old Yankee instead.
