What "man jobs" have you done today?

I had the intentions of cracking on with some decorating today. But somewhere between the back door and the shed a whole load of cant be arsed happened and I spent the day watching black & white war movies instead.

Maybe tomorrow....

a whole load of cant be arsed happened

This happens to me nearly every day. I still need to finish decorating me kitchen which I started last summer.

Today I did manage to drill a screw into the wall in the hallway to hang the backup corded landline phone. I was sick of it lying around in the road of things.

Architrave. Lots of architrave.

though not as much as I'd have liked as the timber yard didn't have enough 70mm ogee in stock and I cut the last 2.1m length I did have at the opposite angle - because I'm an idiot. Will have to pop in Sat morning to get some more - only need 6m to finish it all off.

replaced the transformer in a 12V cieling fitting why they had to make an easy job so difficult by running the main wire through the centre of the doughnut transformer with no way of removing it forcing a cut and solder I have no idea!

Still £150 light fitting fixed for £17 when most would have binned it or called a sparky isn't a bad day.

ripped off and replaced a horrible rotten wood cladding around our gas meter, on the cheap as were selling up soon, still looks a load nicer now and will look ten times better once the fill has dried and i can put a decent coat of paint or two on it tomorrow :)

Sounds like a good day to me and somewhere I have been many a time.

My new ABS lock cylinders arrived yesterday and it's my intention to install them tomorrow. Unless, of course, there's anything on TV... ;)

Been making this out of scrap wood.

circular saw blade sharpener, the bench with a circular saw under it to make a bench saw and a wooden square..

Does that blade sharpener actually work? :D. How do you go about cutting ATB tooth grind, or is it just for flat?

cheers nelson

I have cut one flat but it didn't cut through wood to well..

You could set either the angle grinder or slide at about 8°..

But all i did was fit a socket in the middle of the saw blade about 20mm if i remember correctly, that gave me about 5° if i pulled the blade up by hand.

I set up the vacuum for the carbide dust, wedged in there with a few blocks, made the jig square and the angle grinder square too..

set up a stop so you could only push the blade so far, pulled up the blade on one side and cut every other tooth and did the same again pulling the other side up to give an opposite 5° cut..

it could be set up much more accurately but the blade cuts fine now rather than burning through wood like it used too, so i'm happy.

Many years ago, I converted my attic into a computer room.

Been abused for so many years with far more PCs and junk than ever, including me wedging my Atari and music studio into it and more recently its simply been used as a junk room.

I am now able to go into the attic easier now, as I have built a semi-mini-jig to hold the ladder in place ( Just a few blocks - not worth mentioning - even though I just did )

but the idea was simply to gut it out and redo the lot, but looking at it all, I clearly did such a perfect job in the first place, that I am not going to touch it.

I will however add to it along the side because my intention is to have one PC and my Atari up there along with my Music equipment and nothing more.

The only other work is that I need to do the ceiling properly... Thats a mess and puts the rest of it to shame, but in my defence, its a stupid shape and there are huge gaps between each beam coming down the roof, so it does require some framwork putting up first and at the time, I was financially ruined.

Its going to be hard. I only have the use of one hand, and my legs are wrecked so its a big deal for me, but I can do it... Pics to follow as and when.

But today, I have been doing lots of measurements and on monday I hope to order the wood. Its my next week project.
