What "man jobs" have you done today?

We have been adopted by a nice Marmalade tom cat (snipped)- At moment we are unsure if we can let him stay in at night with cat we already have - so he get's fed at 10.00 at night and a microwavable cat hot water bottle is slipped under his bed. - He get's more than I do.

He has been known to run onto lawn and scratch up the moss which helps me a lot.- he is curled up fast asleep on chair beside me at moment. :)

Chopped up a baton and stuck above the window in a bedroom to mount a curtain rail and then took a trip to the wood recycling depot and bought 4 1m lengths of pine to make shelving in bathroom and thinner strips to replace the plywood bath panel in the week.

I filled a hole in my wall from where I put my foot through it recently.

We should have a 'what woman jobs have you done today?' thread for us guys who live alone and have no choice. :D

I re-plumbed my bathroom towel rad yesterday as the pipes had 2 90 degree bends each side to make them fit the smaller width rad but Ive now plumbed it all under the floor.

Whilst the system was drained I fitted new Drayton TRV4's to the other upstairs rads, ill replace the downstairs ones another day.

Today ill be taking the remanding tiles up off the bathroom floor and replacing it with laminate..... id rather re-tile it but she wants laminate :(

Installed two "conservatory" blinds in the patio doors. Fitted some door stops (that was taxing...). Fitted a hook and eye to hold the back gate open. That's about how far my DIY goes...

I hope you put drain off valves on each rad so you will be able to isolate each rad and remove it without drain down.

This -http://www.bes.co.uk/products/115.asp?kw=7509&ref=googlebase&gclid=CNe508WJzr0CFZShtAoduQ4AOQ#7509

Or valve with drain off - cheap for what they save you in work.

Went and bought a few lengths of 2x1 and some chipboard, built a work bench into my new shed. Started painting the shed, then the heavens opened so it's only half done, will finish it off in the week.

Lifted some turf and dropped in a new paving slab, so now there's no big gap between our old slabs end and the new shed.

All in all a productive weekend.

Replaced the battery in my house alarm, finally got anoyed with it going off every time we have a power cut, just need to convince the 3-4 neighbours that have the same problem to replace thiers as well.

Bullit

MY old grandparents alarm does this but they just don't understand that it is the battery that needs replacing. Or even that it has a battery.

11 year old new build house so battery will be on it's last legs now.

We have a Bosch Formula 1800 vacuum cleaner - had it for years and wheel fell off the big carpet brush bit - so in garage to fix it - Well I found 10 yrs worth of fluff packed solid inside this brush thing - spent ages poking it out with thin screwdriver then thought sod it and got big screwdriver out - popped off bottom and even more fluff - Best way to describe it is it looked like a piece of solid felt material.

I don't want to be one to turn Vac on now as I think whole carpet will vanish up spout.

Made a note to clean it out twice a year now.

The date on the battery was 30.08.2006, so it had a good innings. It was replaced at last service, the month we moved in.

Been working some more in the bathroom, finished tiling around the window but didn't have enough white tiles so mixed in some blue, which actually looked good and got the grouting done this morning.

Undercoated the sewerage covering and on to painting after lunch.

Ceiling prepped for painting tonight.

Touched up all walls in house (glad I made the mistake of using matt in the end!)

Ordered mitre saw and bench from Amazon so lots more manly jobs coming up.

Removed the wall between my stairs and living area over the last couple of weeks:

This is how is looked when I started:

Because the wood is quite thick and therefore heavy, I decided to cut away sections of it to make my life easier:

Wall pulled down, exposing all the rubbish that was stored behind it:

All the junk pulled out and sorted and I did a temporary fit of what will become my my new computer area:

Next on the list to do over the easter holiday is to cut the current post at the bottom of the stairs to a level where it can be used as a newel post. After that it will be fitting the hand/base rail and spindles and then giving everything a good sand and paint.
