What "man jobs" have you done today?

Jobs are never ending ain't they!

Just been on roof (bungalow) with sweeps rods and cleaned out chimney - got a 6" plastic bristle brush as flue is lined - wasn't looking forward to it as I noticed tar deposit's on cowl but when took cowl and insert off the flue was sooty - rodded down a few times then went and opened door on log burner and load of very fine soot came out - All of soot was fine which surprised me as we only burn pine softwood - No tar balls or lumps of anything - so right pleased -- hiding in computer room here as SWMBO is moaning and groaning about layer of soot everywhere.

She won't be moaning in winter when we are stacking wood on.

Bit risky doing chimney sweeps yourself unless you are sure nothing has been left. I get a registered one in to do my Parkray chimney who issues a certificate. If I was to have a chimney fire, insurance will want to see this certificate.

Also caps like these on top of chimneys are dangerous as they collect deposits, CO risk.

Yesterday I knocked a hole in my dining room wall (for a wall plate) and ran 4 lengths of cat6 under the floor from under-stairs network cupboard to it. So that's all my networking finally done!

I also made another hole and added a wall plate for a TV aerial.

All re-plastered and looking good.

I also installed a towel dispenser in my garage. :D

Applied a second coat of Rustins decking oil to the back of my shed today. I wasn't sure of it at first as I prefer a matt finish, but it's not too bad. Should hopefully protect the timber better.

Also added a shelf under my work bench and made some brackets to attach my speakers to the shed wall. Now have a bit of extra floor space in my tiny workshop.

Thanks, it was expensive so I want to make it last as long as possible. Need to fit another trickle vent above the other door to make it match, but I only had one to hand.

Then again it doesn't match anyway as I have used 2 different types of hinge :o. I originally just made the one door so I could get to the storage area behind the shed, but then turned it into a pair of doors and couldn't source another pair of 4mm thick T-hinges, so used some heavy duty stainless fire door hinges instead.

Its sat on a treated 2x4 frame that is then sat on concrete piers so that its above the ground by about 3". I didn't like the idea of sitting it on paving slabs as a lot of people suggested to do.

No manjobs taday, just chilling in the sun with one of my homebrewed ales

Just knocked up a overflow log store - this is the 7th logs store I have but is the smallest - it can be unscrewed and all sit flat on base so can be stored over fence in field.

One more trailer full will fill this and am set up for winter.

Well, had a bit of a nightmare last night..

Was downstairs on my laptop, heard a funny noise in the hallway. Went through and saw this..

So dived into the kitchen cupboard and emptied the contents of the bottom shelf in one sweep, and turned the water off. Turned out the flex pipe to the hot tap on the sink had burst in the bathroom upstairs!

It's a very old bathroom which is being changed in just a few months as it's hideous! So the man job today was taking the sink off end replacing the pipes. The sink has to come off as the pipes were so damn tight. £6.50 later some new pipes from screwfix fitted :)

We are SO lucky that didn't happen during the day, could have done some serious damage. Thankfully the carpets have dried out fine, and had a dehumidifier on for 24 hours now. I've left the downstairs lighting circuit switched off for now too, just in case. So thankfully no major damage done.

That is my worst nightmare - I have one or two flexi pipes in my hot and cold water system - but only 4 yrs old at moment - might leave myself a to do on Reminder Fox to replace them in two yrs time.

Glad not a lot of damage was done.

The father in law and I decided it was time for a new fence on the right side of my garden.

It went from this

to this
after.jpg

Started work about 9am had to remove three posts as the old fence was a mish mash of off sized panels. Two more to remove but will do them next week once my shed has arrived and we can take down the old lean too conservatory.

Found a good use of some nasty velvet curtains whilst we were working today :D

Nice! Where do you get your wood from? I'm looking for ideas on how to source mine.

I bet the sources are drying up as more and more people install these trendy wood burners.

Not so long ago you were branded a nobody and weird if you didn't have gas, well I think it's still like that in my area *strokes parkray* :P
