What "man jobs" have you done today?

@dlockers Don't feel bad. I planned to finish 5 wires / 10 ends today and got literally 1 run done before I ran out of daylight.

The kitchen light switch emerges just beyond arm's reach in the floor above, under a wall. Luckily I managed to expose the cable right where it emerged from the wall capping into the ceiling. Unfortunately I just couldn't fit 2 new wires and had to wreck the capping to get them in. Still - at least I now have a second fitting over the dining area for mood lighting :)

Also discovered the garage has some puddles in so I bought a dehumidifier and will unload everything to find the source tomorrow... wet cardboard boxes ahoy :(

Yep - must plough on. Luckily Amazon now sell the sander I have (Milwaukee M18) directly for £85; so I've ordered a new one for tomorrow. I may be unethical and boomerang it back, as my one has 2 days remaining on warranty! Amazon have given me until Monday to hear back from the main vendor.

I've just spent this evening polyfilling the gaps for a sand; so maybe tomorrow I'll crack on with the ceiling paint, and the plaster job for the chases. Then hopefully the sander arrives prior to about 3pm and I can finish the final eradication of the yellow 1930s enamel.

I really need to get the grass seed down too!

Good news is, the house is toasty at 20 odd degrees despite outside being ~13. The insulation has made a massive difference IMHO.

We're having a big clear out. Today was the big cupboard downstairs, the kitchen drawer (I think everyone has a kitchen drawer full of crap?) and the filing/shredding which, I've been putting off since the first lockdown.

Getting tired now, but dead excited to have this phase over so I can get floor and skirting in...

I bought my Mrs a window squeeze machine a few years ago for Christmas. She was not impressed.
With the sockets above, rather than t twins, you could for one of those multi jobbies.

Sorry can't insert links, as it's greyed out for some reason.

Fixed a mirror dash cam for a friend, it was sitting in his drawer for a few years and my guess is the lipo discharged too much until it will not turn back on. Topped it up with some 4.2V and it comes back alive......

Well, didn't find the definitive source of the moisture in the garage but pulled out maybe 25% of the boxes to investigate. Checking the bottom box of each pile, about half of these were wet. Either very fresh or just not too bad - some had books in and one or two books were damp but most were fine.

So a bit of a mystery but I've resealed the DPM joins with better tape, and patched over a few small tears. There is some moisture further back but I couldn't unpack that far.

Will get a self storage next week and transfer dry stuff to that. We're meant to have builders to brick up the garage ASAP so I'm not too worried long term. Just be nice not to get all of our stuff go mouldy in the meantime like these shelves...

Outraged you've got another man to brick your garage up @LuckyBenski

Right....reasonable progress today..managed to plaster up the wall chases with the deep fill. New sander arrived so I killed 3 batteries worth, still a small bit to go. That yellow lead enamel crap is acting as if it's structural lol. Burnt through 300 pads iirc on this room alone.

Ceiling done, alcove repair made, painted down to picture rail.

I was going to push through tomorrow but in all honestly I might just go to work for a bit of R&R

Has anyone done this to shim up an uneven stud wall? This is so it's flat before tiling. The latter part of the video.

My stud walls are about 8mm out vertically on a 1.8m level!

Looks good - any tips? I need to make two cabinets left/right side of chimney.

It's not perfect by any means, but I found doing a proper 3d drawing helped get dimensions straight in my head. Some of the boards are a bit warped across the width which is a tad annoying as with mdf it would probably be easier to correct. That said, I have joined every face with 5-off 4mm screws which has straightened them a bit.
I filled it last night (screw heads and the odd gap), aiming to sand and paint this week. I've also got some cabinet feet to put on it to raise it above the skirting.

Didn't do much in the way of jobs this weekend.

I mowed the lawn if that counts.

Actually, it's not really a lawn seeing as most of it is moss :( Job for next year is to rip it all up and lay some new turf.

I've just scarified mine, aerated the worst bits with the fork, just tossed on a load of weed and feed. Will overseed in April I think.

It'll never be perfect (kids) so no point chasing unrealistic lawn goals
