What "man jobs" have you done today?

Playing at being a lumberjack again today, 2 medium size trees that came down de-branched and logged up. Tree that came down on the emu compound fence had its top lopped off, but a LOT of tree still to be disposed of. Rebuilt Stihl chain saw engine now most definitely run in :)

Got 60 foot of 6 foot weldmesh fence to cut out, put in four new posts to replace the broken ones, and let in a new fence section and tension up. Probably a days work given my decrepit state these days.

People often say how nice it must be to have your own woodland. It is lovely, but it's a LOT of work when the winds come....

Spent a happy hour in garage and made sure all the valves/isolater's coming and going from boiler were free.
Managed 7 out of the 8 -Just can't get this one to turn more than 1/8th of turn 1/4 turn is off.

I had a man come and service our boiler to tell us it's producing dangerous amounts of carbon monoxide. Sending quotes through to replace the whole boiler or just the flue. Better lube up..

£2.1k for full boiler replacement with an Ideal 30kW or £300 for the flue replacement. Are these about in line with market rate?

2.1k for boiler replacement, really……how big is the mansion its servicing??

I think I'll probably just run this one into the ground for now and either cough up for a new one when it does finally pack it in or let the next buyers of this house have an appropriate reduction to fund a new boiler. Gas engineer said it's safe to use as the gases are contained to the flue but he just can't sign it off.

A boiler swap usually isn’t the case of ripping the old one off and adding the new one. Modern boilers will probably want new and better controls, magnet filter adding and a new flu. That’s before adding in a power flush, chemicals and labour (which includes elements of tools, van etc) plus VAT.
