What "man jobs" have you done today?

Said good bye to the old dining table etc - just too large for the place. The local charity shop took it (it took three blokes to move it). The new one arrived yesterday and was promptly assembled :)

Keep us posted "Mysterae_" I've got some weed killing to do myself, and I've been putting off buying the proper stuff as it's not cheap.

So far so good, it's only been a day and the weeds look pretty dead (the cat's okay, honest). The family now has a craving for something from the chippy but otherwise happy with the results.

I've been using boiling water as we have a dog who thinks he's a police drugs dog. So as much as he's a pain in the arse I'd rather not poison the little plum.
Stuff does grow back, but it does kill off a reasonable chunk of stuff.

The risk to pets and wildlife is the reason why I'm reluctant to go the full nuclear option. Keeping the cats in for a few days would drive them (and us) nuts.

RIP ground. Vinegar and salt will do more harm than Glyphosate ever will.

If you're worried about cost then you've bought the wrong product as that looks like ready to use (i.e. pre-diluted).

What you need is https://green-care.co.uk/product/gallup-hi-aktiv-490g-glyphosate-5ltr/ and at recommended dilution rates that will probably last you a good few years.

I'm not too worried about anything growing again where I spray, I see that as a benefit :D.

I did a little test on a border plant next to the driveway to see if the vinegar/salt mix would leech elsewhere by only spraying part of an offender:

You are right @Armageus it does look like I bought the wrong stuff and I could save loads - the stuff you linked to covers up to 45,000m2 whereas the ready mixed weedkiller I bought would be lucky to cover 50m2. That's a massive difference! Thanks for that, I'll be putting that on my next garden shopping list :).

You didn't kill the cat did you?

A productive day off:

Changed utility stopcock and garden tap, both of which released more water from the valve head than anywhere else.
Trip to builders yard to pick bricks
8 yard skip delivery
Moved 1 tonne of top soil 40m from driveway to garden.
Removed Study window.
Removed 2 x kitchen window.
Removed 1 x french doors & 2 sidelights
Removed vaulted ceiling plasterboard and PIR
Tip trip.
Removed kitchen ceiling.

And after a long hard day...when removing the last foot or two of plasterboard from the kitchen ceiling, I was gifted the flow and return. Hallelujah a beautiful sight.

A significant finding given the only viable option was to tee off the utility, through a wall and pass behind the downstairs loo and another wall in to the kitchen. Rads in this room will be on the opposing wall to previous and cast iron so I didn't really want long feeds of 15mm or to be under the floor if it could be avoided.

Planed, routed and sanded the table for the arrival of the Gazebo next week and after far too long, finally got the water feature into shape for the arrival of the pump tomorrow.
Will be adding sheeting and a lip around the water feature to avoid rot and to keep the stones in place.
Metal around the table base is from all the Rauch bedroom furniture I either used for shelving in the shed or burned.

Today will be.. sorting out the netting cover for the pond. Both to reduce the cost of feeding the local birds with koi fish food but to also top them jumping out (they can do due to getting competitive for food etc). The local timid cat has decided our garden is awesome. The Indian sandstone paths heat up in the sun which is has claimed as it's own personal stretch out spot. The net should deter it if it starts being more interested in the fish.

I also need to sort out he frost damage this week.

Cleared the tonne of winter rubbish and old bedroom furniture for burning to make room for the new gazebo that's arriving next week.

Went just for some cat and dog food (we don't have either - this is for her mum) along with a new fish cover net. Decided that a Sunday breakfast would be great only to find their restaurant is closed on Sundays.. so ended up at a local garden centre .. which led to purchasing flowers, hanging basket, lupins, lavender, etc etc.. which I've just finished potting and planting. Now half way through a tub of Caramel Chew Chew.

Unsure if you have an ev but...
If you're out on your travels and need to charge then it costs more in the garden centre than on the charger on site:eek:

Going on holiday at 4pm so cleverly I decided to, at 2pm,

- Mow the lawn as it's sprung up and will be a nightmare when we're back. Good lord it's bumpy, weedy, dead in places...

- Try to turn over the parts donor car I've had sitting 6 months, as the tyres need inflating and turning over. No dice - battery was totally dead, spare jump battery also on 10.5 volts for some reason. Gave it a quick go on the CTEK charger/start assist but it didn't get past a quick turn of the starter.

Time's up, time to go away!
