What movie franchise do you wish you enjoyed?

I occasionally listen to a podcast called 'The rewatchables' where they go over an older movie with a fine tooth comb - best performance, most rewatchable scene etc

Anyway, I was listening to one about 'The fast and the furious' (which I liked) and then they recently did fast 5, which I thought was ridiculous but not really in an enjoyable way.

I fell asleep during fast 6, and didn't bother with 7 or 8.

The way they were talking about Fast 5 made me wish I liked the films, one of them thought it was the best action movie of the decade! I know it's just their opinion but it's just not a series that does anything for me really.

Anyone else have a franchise they wish they could enjoy like other people seem to? Marvel, Star Wars, Mission Impossible etc

The MCU in general. The last movie I watched was Iron Man 3 as it assumed I'd seen Avengers. I understand the idea behind bringing it all together, but it got my back up. It doesn't help that Iron Man 3 wasn't great :p

The only exclusion to this is The Punisher, which I did enjoy, but that is hardly connected to the MCU really. In fact, unless I'm mistaken, it never references any of it.

Fantastic Beasts. I just don’t like Eddie whatsisface in the lead role which totally spoils the films for me. I managed about fifteen minutes of the second one before I had to switch off.

The Godfather trilogy. Supposedly some of the finest acting and cinematography known to man, but I’ve never watched more than 15 minutes of the first one as mafia stuff bores me to tears.

Probably MCU for me. I've seen about 30 minutes of Hulk, when I caught it on TV, but otherwise have watched none of it. And now there's too much, the wall of content is too daunting. And I'm suspicious that most of it just isn't my sort of thing, despite being intrigued by, in particular, some of the Avengers stuff - perhaps just the scale of it.

GotG looks like something that might work as a standalone, though, and looks like something I might like - so perhaps I'll watch that someday and that could be a route into the whole thing. I've probably, mostly, missed the boat with it, though.

Not to derail my thread already, but you caught 30 minutes of the worst movie in the series

Just watch Iron Man, and if you like that, go from there.

I can think of 3 later MCU movies that are worse than Hulk...unless of course you mean the Ang Lee movie.

Harry Potter - never read a single book or watched a single movie. I have bought the whole book and movie set with the intention of reading, then watching them with my young son (young at the time). But he never got into it and so they have been gathering dust ever since.

Game of Thrones - no-one can believe i haven't watched an episode, when it was explained to me it was dragons and fantasy, i instantly switched off - i have been told it is so much more than this!

TBH Game of Thrones is more about the characters, the flesh of the show is their power plays, scheming, double crossing etc. while playing the 'game' for the throne. However it does all hang off a skeleton of fantasy and dragons so if it isn't your thing then I would say it isn't for you.

As for me - The Sopranos. It's often quoted as one of the best TV series made and I do enjoy other mafia stories (like The Godfather mentioned above) but I've tried a couple of times to get in to it and just can't.

The Hobbit trilogy. I have only seen the first 2, never bothered with the 3rd, and did not like them at all. Even watching LoTR now I don't enjoy them as much as I thought I did when they first came out.

Similar for me; except that I do like fantasy. :p

A friend of mine thinks it's the best thing since sliced bread. He keeps telling me I should watch it as it's like Lord of the Rings; which I do like. I do like fantasy, but I have no interest in GoT.

Greboth's description sums up why I have no interest in it. To me the fantasy seems like a back drop for the scheming between characters, which doesn't interest me at all.

Similar to me - I wish I could like Harry Potter but it is like a massive celebration of mediocrity. Just couldn't get into the books and pushed through the first 2 films before finally giving up.

Game of Thrones. Unlike you I am a fantasy fan, but I hate the books, GRRM seems like a seriously overrated writer to me. I managed to watch 5 seasons of GoT thanks to the ability to binge watch them but I have no interest in continuing, and if I had been forced to watch one episode per week I would have given up in the first season - like the books, it drags on.

Yeah super hero stuff for me too. Loads of mates go on about it and book tickets to first showings etc. I just can't get into them at all.
That and the CGI action films like Transformers or Fast and Furious, the Mrs loves them but I get bored.

Have to agree with this as I generally liked most of the Harry Potter ones, especially the latter ones where they'd finally learnt how to act.
I've still got the second Beasts one to watch but I'm not breaking my neck to see it.

Game of thrones, sick of hearing it talked about at work, I watched season one and it was just slow and boring.

Mrs just started it asked me to give it another go and I just said no.

Be glad when the show ends

Movie wise blade runner, the film was stunning visually but again I was bored turned it off after one hour

Transformers - grew up on this as a kid and very much disappointed by the movie franchise. Watched the first 2 i think and that was enough - no idea what was going on and just a blur of CGI.

F&Furious - this just looks so lame - a million gear changes and Vin D is a fat blob, not an action hero (apart from Riddick).
