what now ?

thats how they would be in my case, just like my 5870's
how hot do you reccon the top card would get ?

sick of ati drivers and they are only going to lose even more money when the 6000 cards arrive.

Seriously? Clearly their driver problem is nowhere near as bad as you're making out considering the RRP of the 5 series actually went up for ages before going back down to the RRP over their life span. If they're that bad, no one would have bought them would they?

In terms of ATI drivers peforming poorly, I have never yet experienced this but where 'I' feel nvidia nearly always do better is in the minimum frame rates and general 'tightness' and consistency of the frames per second.

I don't know where that's came from, I'd bet it was placebo and or a complete myth. It's often said by people who also say "nVidia never ever have any problems ever, never ever".

Kyle I only stated that im sick of the drivers ive not gone into any depth, the fact that when I run anyting other than 10.4 I run into problems, the fact powerplay can be a nightmare is enough for me to think its time to sell what I have and rethink.
And yes I think that come 6000 release, 5870's will be sub £200 or less on the mm, there not shifting now at £220 - 230.
If I need to upgrade I must sell what ive got to fund it, and now is /was the right time to sell.
people who run single cards may have different issues to what xfire users have, and im not the only xfire user on this forum who has issues and is selling their cards.
saying that, if the 5870 replacement is any good I will eat my words and get one of them or maybe 2.
Like I said though, its about money and the right time to sell in order for me to afford to upgrade / change.

I wasn't disputing your reasons for wanting to upgrade, and to sell now, as now is probably the best time to sell for the most monies. Your "they're going to lose even more money because of their drivers" is what I was commenting about. An odd thing some people don't seem to be able to grasp is that it's not always a driver issue that's the manufacturer's. Something tentlad recently came across. He was getting issues that appeared to be a problem with the driver working, he eventually found out that there were two .inf files in the driver folder and windows was using the wrong one, deleting the wrong file has caused his problems to go away.

Now, when people experience problems with nVidia, they don't get all silly and start blaming nVidia for being rubbish, they do research and try to narrow it down to what it is. When people get issues with ATi, they seeming just rage about drivers and go on about how they're moving to nVidia and how they don't understand how ATi make any money with such shoddy drivers.

All these "driver problems" people associate with ATi are also experienced by nVidia users, yet a lot of people will claim they don't, bizarrely.

1-do i stick with my 5970
2-do i get 480
3-wait for 600 series.
will 600 series drivers be crap

As you are happy with it I would at least wait for the ATI 6000 series though I shouldn't think there's anything that the 5970 doesn't run at the very least well enough, except for tessellation, but then both firms will need to improve in that area. :)

I would wait for the 6 series - Then make up my mind depending on the benchmark tests. Also, is there any reason you don't like the ATI drivers as i am considering moving to nVidia aswell depending on the 6 series
