What nvidia gpu would be best to get the most out of my core duo 2 6600 running at 3.2ghz, i mean what gpu would not get bottlenecked, only have a 9600gt at the moment, for instance if i put one of the latest nvidia gpu in my pc, would i see much benifit useing this 5 yearold cpu, cheers

Are you looking to buy new or used? There won't be many cards where a bottleneck won't be possible. Have you looked at the 2xx/4xx series?

If you do add a new card, you will get bottleneck.

Depending on what res you gaming at.

A stock E6600 is a good balance with the 9600GT for 1680x1050 res; but for 1920x1080, upgrading graphic card would benefit you...but that still doesn't mean the E6600 would be able to give you playable frame rate in demanding titles.

Hi guys, thx for replys, i just want to keep useing this pc for as long as possible, but current gpu struggles with latest games, jsut wanted to maybe chuck in another gpu for a while, would a 2** or 4** series give me like twice the fps ? or if i did add a newer card ready for a future upgrade, would that be worth it, i mean a old cpu would not damage a new card would it.

Yeh i run at 1920 x 1080 on tv, it runs older games great, but for instance i got borderlands 2 and recent mxgp and struggles.

Mantle i will have to google, not got a clue what this is.

What it means for gamers?

Now that Mantle has freed up some extra CPU capacity, we expect Mantle will lead to better games, and more of them, since Mantle makes game development easier.

That’s not all Mantle will do for gamers. By shifting work to the GPU, a mid-range or older CPU isn’t the same handicap it was before. With Mantle, the GPU becomes the critical part of the system, and GPU upgrades will have a bigger impact than before.

More info here

Have you considered instead of a GPU, replace your mobo/ram and get an AMD APU (combined CPU+GPU) as that would give you a good boost in CPU/GPU/RAM performance.

Thx for the Mantle info, sounds very good, at the moment i dont want to upgrade pc, just wanted to know if it was worth just putting in like a £50/£100 gpu for now, and maybe upgrade in 6 months/year.

Look on a popular auction site, you'll get a better deal over buying new. Would you consider B-grade items?

Just checked, i actually have a Core 2 Duo E7300 not 6600, not much difference i know, will deffo be a 2nd hand card i get, maybe even B-grade.

I'd get a AMD 7770 for £66;

E7300 isn't THAT bad. Depends what games you play, but it'd pair up with a 7770 ok in most. Have you overclocked the CPU at all?
Yea, the E7x00 should be able to overclock to 4.00GHz or a little more if not held back by the motherboard....I am not sure how well would the Asus p5ql do on overclocking or if there's any restriction in bios in terms of overclocking features.

well my e7300 is default 2.6ghz, but i have it overclocked to 3.2mhz on stock cooler, runs hot thou, the amd 7770 is a lot of card for that money, but want to stick to a nvidia really.

There's no new Nvidia GPU that comes close to that 7770 without spending quite a lot more for a GTX 750 (£86). You'd have to go used to get better value

Is there a particular reason you need to have an Nvidia?

Getting yourself a second hand 275/285 will give you a boost over your current 9600.
You should have access to the MM, put a wanted thread i'm sure loads of people have one of those cards ready to go to a new home. £30 should cover it.

Edit: Unless you want DX11, inwhat case a 460 will be equally cheap and offer same performance. Your CPU will be holding anything more powerful back tbh.
