This is probably the wrong thread but anyway.

What version of Windows do you use and if you use an SSD as your primary storage what size is it?

I've used Windows 7 since it's launch and never switched to 8. I also only use a 128GB SSD. I only really tend to have 2 or 3 games installed at a time but lately I'm noticing I just have no space and am constantly deleting temp files to make room.

I'm thinking about getting a new SSD, but don't know what size and I'm also wondering if I should get Windows 8 while I'm at it.

How much space does Win 8 take up compared to Win 7?

I am still on windows 7,don't see the need to change as it is still stable for me,i have got a 120gb ssd for windows,2tb for storage,750gb hard drive for steam,it all works great.

120gb SSD for OS and 250gb SSD for games, couple of other hard drives for random storage.

Windows 8.1 folder is currently 35gig, mainly down to the WinSXS and Installer folders which I dont think I can do much about other than a reinstall if Windows.

I assume on his Steam drive.

Really games benifit little from being on the SSD, if there is ONE game you play a lot, it may be worth putting that on, then use the rest for extra temp space.

I changed to 8, though itwas on a laptop and i loathe it... id take 7 any day.

Useful info thanks, and interesting setup. Quite like the idea of having OS for one SSD and a few games on the other. I could use my older SSD for OS and get a larger one for games.

Hmmm, my load times are a lot faster when running games from my SSD. I also thought having the game files on the same drive as your system files was optimal?

Is the loading times really worth the ssd to hard drive format ?

I dont notice no slow down on my 750gb hard drive,i really cant see the point in ssd's for games unless you want a really quite pc.

I'm never in that much of a rush that i need a game to load 1.3 seconds faster :)

Makes a big difference in some games, others not so much.

Price of SSD's is becoming much more attractive so why not get as much speed as possible. When you can get a decent 250g SSD for less than £100 its a no brainer imo. :)

It is but when your steam library is 732gb ill wait for a cheap 1tb ssd :)

I have a 256GB SSD OS drive and a 500GB SSD for games, the OS is half used, the games drive has about 80GB free - Windows 8.1

If I were you, I wouldnt buy Windows 8/8.1 - This summer Microsoft are releasing Windows 10 - for free for windows 7/8 users in the first year.

Considering one can buy a good 250GB SSD for less than £100 these days, might as well get one for OS and essential (very commonly used programs). Then just get a large capacity mechanical hard drive for storing games, especially since they are quite large these days. Just look at GTA5. Must be painful to install that onto an SSD. My old laptop had plenty of room on my 120GB Intel SSD which had Windows installed and I had a lot of space left over on the 750GB mechanical drive for actual storage.
