What OS are you using for your HTPC?

Howdy :)

My current HTPC set up is a C2D/2GB/HD5450 build with Win7 HP on it - I'm tempted to downgrade to a spare atom/ion board I have, as I've recently been streaming the video through a PS3 and no longer need the power/heat/noise! The atom board, however, only takes on stick of ram - and win7 runs like a dead slug on 1GB :p

I'm looking to chuck ubuntu on it, as I've used it before, and there are linux versions of all my media center apps (XBMC,PS3MS,Sabnzbd,filezilla).

What OS are you all using?
 
Windows 7 HP on a thrown together HTPC consisting of:

Athlon X2 4600+
Foxconn Motherboard
4Gb Geil 6400 RAM
Ati 4650 512Mb
Antec 400w PSU
Coolermaster Case
 
Windows 7 HP (32bit) on the main HTPC (E6600/2GB) and OSX Snow Leopard on the Mac Mini.

Am considering trying out Linux based XBMC on a spare box at the weekend if I can dig out the appropriate cables to hook it up to the upstairs TV.

Sorry if I've missed something here...can't you just chuck a 4GB DIMM into the Atom and run Windows 7?

I could if I wanted to buy new hardware, sure. I've got more than enough spare hardware lying around though, and not enough cash lying around :)
 
Ubuntu on Acer Revo. 2GB ram, running XBMC. I would run XBMC live, but I tend to use it for some other stuff aswell. It did run using 1GB of RAM, but 512mb was recommended for the video if playing 1080p, and it needs 2GB to be able to assign the 512mb to the GPU.

Runs absolutely fine, loads up XBMC on startup, and control it using a DiNovo mini. Intending to replace the HD with a smaller SSD at some point in the next couple of months.

Only issue I had was some mucking around to get it to output the 5.1 sound over the optical whilst using the HDMI for video (Old amplifier). That took more time that I would have liked, and I really should back up the configuration for that incase I ever need to rebuild it.

All my media is stored on a NAS, which also has apps for automated downloads. The Revo only gets used for media playback, and some occasional IPv6 stuff.

Ubuntu + XBMC here.. Nvidia VDPAU accelleration works lovely. Also use TVheadend to get DVB-S TV with XBMC. The setup is rock solid.
 
Got an old copy of XP Pro currently running on mine, but will be replacing with W7 HP one of these days. Amongst other things, the system includes an Intel E6300, Nvidia 8800GT 512Mb, and 4Gb DDR2.

Windows 7 64bit HP. Use Media Centre with Media Browser and it all runs of a spare 720BE, 4GB DDR 3 and an old x25m SSD for the c:\ Drive. Runs smoothly enough. ;)

The last thing I wanted was dog slow response from my HTPC. When it comes to watching movies, recorded telly after work and whatever else, I want it now! I don't want to be watching spinning blue circles.
 
XBMC live here. I've no need for my HTPC to do anything else other than to play files so it fits the bill nicely
