what processor upgrade for a dell dimension 9150?

hi all, thinking about upgrading the processor in my old dell lump, its currently running a p4 prescot 775lga 3ghz chip. some foxcon mobo i guess

how do i know what will be compatable, such as core 2 duos etc?

Goto the dell website and enter your service tag and look at the specifications.

I would think it is unlikley tha it will take any Core based chips, nut you may get lucky.
 
well I seen a LGA775 so it might do, but not without a flash.

problem with that is that you gotta identify the mobo, as its OEM

your mobo will support 1066mhz dual cores on the 65nm process I'd imagine, and yes unfortunately it does mean your ram is running at that speed, but you can probs overclock it to near enough 800 :)
 
On a dell? Not a chance. it's running at 667 and that's that

is there somewhere to look at the architecture of the chips? i cant anything in the product info on ocuk?

is 45nm a new format? and whats the size of say a e5200 dual?

I'm pretty sure the 945P can only support Core based chips if the board has a certain VRM revision. There certainly were 945 boards that could only support Pentium 4/D and below and then later versions that could run Core 2 Duo etc.
 
Early 945P boards like nightmare99 mentions could not support the Core 2 duo range, only the later one's can.

Dump the Dell lump,

Invest in a new system you wont look back ;)
 
ok i think i will leave that then, its still running ok but the extra power would be nice for what i use it for.

its not my main rig lol, ive got a p5q pro with a e5200 @ 3.6 :)
