What pump?

The heatsink thing came about (I think) shortly after the invention of the Shoggy Sandwich. Wonderful triple-layer foam thing stuck to the bottom of the stock Laing DDC housing to eliminate vibration. Trouble is, that thing acted as an insulator and started cooking the 18W DDCs. So now it's evolved into the metal heatsink housings with screw-in vibration dampening.

Yeah I can understand wanting to prolong the life it's just I hear people saying you need a heatsink and air flow etc yet mine have both been running full pelt for 10 -15 years with neither and show no signs of giving up anytime soon. Maybe I've just been very lucky.
I think with DDC pumps it's the luck of the draw. If you get a good one, it just keeps on trucking, get a bad one and it's end of life is 31 minutes. I have seen this kind of situation on YouTube quite often.

I don't agree that DDC pumps need a heatsink. If that were true, Laing would have built them in. They sell millions of these things (most go nowhere near a computer) and in industrial usage reliability is even more of a factor than in computer water-cooling.
