What retro things have you done today?

Does the board have power @LewisRaz? Is it a case of it not posting? That looks might clean. I can't see any obvious damage.
I was about to post an update but this thread was becoming almost a personal blog :P

I have spent another few hours on it tonight (mostly because of my low skill soldering, I had to put the resistors on the underside of the board as there was more room!) putting the board back together after not finding and trace damage. After firing it up it was the same old..

I decided to try putting some pressure on the cpu and then the chipset and lo and behold on one of the attempts with pressure on the chipset it started throwing post codes at me! (I dont have any VGA plugged in and it got as far as 06 "video disabled")

Its really hard to work out where to put the pressure and seems a bit random how far it will get. I am not sure how to proceed as my soldering iron tip is about as big as 2 of the pins and thats if I had a steady hand...

I was thinking heatgun while using something to put some pressure down on the pins? Its a bit late at night now to be making all that noise tho and I am not sure how the chip/surrounding area will enjoy being blasted like that.

@cee-S-dee yes all the power LEDS are on the post card the only one that is blank is IRDY (It lights up dim when it does try to post) and reset which should be off anyway.

The reset LED does sometimes light up or flicker. I am guessing due to the poor connections on this chipset?

Today, b0rked my Retroid Pocket 2 8.1 install by turning off PIN unlock.
Re-flashed to 8.1 v2 but experienced the same black screen screen power on issues, so then re-flashed back to 6.0 v2.
I really like the console, but it does love you to faff about with it.

Well I was able to pick up the 3Dfx TV cable for the Voodoo 3500 TV I picked up cheap a couple of weeks back. Cable cost a tenner but that appears to be a lot cheaper than the P&D adapters I was looking at. Happy to report the card works great so I managed to get a working 3500 TV for £25.

wow, cool card!

I have the Mac PCI Voodoo 5 5500 flashed to work with PC, currently worknig nicely in my old PIII 933 :)

What are you guys like for HDDs do you install new gen HDDs or install old IDE drives where possible? The reason I say this is I have a couple 40GB IDE and 80GB IDEs sitting about and rather than bin them someone on here might be able to use them and I would stick them in the MM here.

I really don't want to bin them that's all.

I mostly use CF cards although I did like to keep a HDD in the rig for retro noises. The other week I had 3 die in a row for various reasons and now I exclusively use CF. Just cant be doing with how unreliable old drives are

I fired up my old Dreamcast to introduce my kids to Sega Bass Fishing, my youngest wasn't impressed and asked to play Animal Crossing instead...

I spent more time than I should have getting mad with my new 486 board before realizing you have to actually change the oscillator to change the bus speed. The 40mhz one it came with is annoying as it adds wait states to everything and performs like a 33mhz 386 according to benchmarks.

Anyone know a cheap place to get a 33mhz dip14 oscillator? If not I think im going with a cyrix dx2 80mhz and live with the wait states.

Did you have / use the Dreamcast fishing rod attachment?

I'm not liking the lack of retro respect. I would demand a paternity test. :o

I managed to finish Tetris type B game at the highest level and fastest speed on the Game Boy. First time I’ve managed to do it and see the space shuttle!

Spent some of this morning playing Pyramid Magic III. One of the most annoying games i've ever played. Even more so than when I remember playing it as a kid

I did some retro activity today for the first time in a month or so. I was using my retro area for normal PC stuff whilst my normal PC had some problems, bit that's dealt with now and I had nothing set up so...

I built a 3.4GHz Pentium 4 with a painful 512Mb of RAM and my 7600GS. However I kept all the modern stuff in the case like the 750GB SSD and SATA DVD drive (and the case itself).

It's weird seeing XP boot up so fast on such an old machine!

While I’m waiting for my uk-jap voltage converter to arrive for my Sega Saturn, I picked up a Neo Geo Arcade Stick Pro. Got the extra games unlocked tonight and had a quick blast.

It’s pretty good for what it is, well built and also doubles as a fight stick for PCs and consoles too. It needs the buttons swapping out for Sanwas (on order), but other than that I can’t really knock it.
