What retro things have you done today?

Still some nice pickups there mate!
I just spent well over an hour on my 486 after loading up TTD to test my theory (That the CPU was overheating). Couldnt put the game down and my cheapo SB16 is working flawlessly.
It turns out that 133mhz 486s work better when cooled :p
Just took the mounting hook thing out of a socket 7 cooler and glued it to the cpu along with a bit of paste... Its on there solid!

Was there nothing on the cpu at all? Also love TTD (assuming you mean Transport Tycoon Deluxe :D).

Maybe someone is interested in this job lot. There's a 3dfx Velocity 100, a 3D Prophet 4500, an ISA Tseng, a possible FX 5700? (purple card) and a Ti 4200 from the better cards, I don't know where he sees a Voodoo 3000. The bottom card on the 2nd picture is not a 3dfx card, maybe FX 5200 or 6200.
170£ is excessive for untested cards. At least they are not listed as parts/not working. He turned down my offer of 100£ :D

£170.... LoL! I've been observing eBay for a bit now and I don't think much retro stuff is selling for the inflated prices that was saw during the COVID Period. Seems to be a lot of stuff not selling.

To me it seems like the market has dried up a bit, during Covid I was seeing a lot of listings, now barely a few a day. But not too many people are buying, the economical situation is not great, so people are not willing to spend money on hobbies.

The Velocity 100 is essentially a Voodoo 3, albeit an 8Mb one (which is probably why he's mentioned it as such to get more hits). His item listing seems accurate though (the purple card is one of the MX440's he mentions I think), but hard to match all the MX440's and TNTs to specific cards.

Seems a fairly reasonable price - the 3dfx Velocity 100 is worth ~£100 on it's own, the Prophet 4500 at least £50. The ISA Tseng only going up in value as ISA cards are comparatively rare. Even the Ti 4200 is probably worth £30-40 (a bit less than they normally are as it's a Medion card rather than a well know Abit/Gainward/Asus/etc). Then all the other TNT2/MX/Rage/Matrox cards at £5-£10 each.

Easily £250 if you just wanted to split and flip them

Yeah, 170£ is fair, but they are untested. Probably most of them will work, but then it's still a gamble. Just to flip them, you will quickly sell the most desirable cards, just to make up the 170£ and then you will be stuck with the other cards, as nobody wants them. Just to buy and re-sell them it's not worth it. I already have all those cards, I don't feel like spending 170£ just to add some cards to the collection.
I guess in a week if it's not sold, he will accept lower offers.

The 486 motherboard arrived today but I cant get any life out of it. Although its got a lot of settings on the board it is missing several of the other jumpers which is a pain. Seems to be a fairly unknown brand and board too. Perhaps thats why it was so cheap :P

I would have agreed with you a good 6 to 12 months ago mate, but I've seen V3's not shifting for £100. I think the fact the stuff is listed as untested is what made me have my initial LOL response to the price. You could end up with a bunch of junk for £170.

I would love a VLB Tseng ET4000/W32p card... or even more so a ARK Logic card. I have the PCI version but VLB ones are big money :-(

You actually reminded me.. I did actually buy a ISA card a while ago I don't think I posted. Its a Diamond Speedstar Pro based on the CL-GD5429 chipset. A really good compatible chip for DOS and quite fast! I paid £20 for this card.

Can any of the electronic component savvy people in this thread tell me how this board is gettings its 3.3v?
The jumper settings are also the same for 3.3, 3.45 and 4v. Which is sortof odd/impossible?

Just use the 2&3 closed, probably the motherboard then knows what voltage to use based on the other jumpers that sets the frequency. But if it says same jumpers for all 3 voltages, I guess that's the setting to use :D

Ah yes but I mean I dont see a transistor like other motherboard use to get the lower voltages from 5v

Picked up a USB floppy drive. Worked straight away in windows 11. Will make transfers to the 486 nice and easy.
Also spent a few hours testing some of my systems. Not sure what to keep and what to move on.
Have spent probably 5+ hours gaming on my 486 this weekend but once I had finished I did think that it would have been the same or even better on my 166mmx system.

If you don't really need to get rid of them, like lack of space, just keep them. You will regret later :)
