What RTS games is everyone playing?

I'm playing Anno 2070 at the moment, quite enjoying it as I feel like I can take my time rather than feeling rushed into having to get resources and military forces etc as quickly as possible in case of impending attack or whatever. Does mean I'm probably taking far longer than necessary to get stuff done but I like it.

This is why I suck at RTS - I take too much time getting stuff done. I tend to be too defensive as well. :/

sorry been AWOL lol

i want starcraft 2 buts its not on steam.

whats civ 5 like?

i like building bases then building a massive army and steam rolling over the enemy, not much strategy in that but its fun.

Used to play company of heroes until they killed it off with the bad server.

Coh2 is rubbish to me as is starcarft 2 which I think is a test of mouse and keyboard speed clicks rather than strategy.

So I play none at the moment the genre is dead thanks to sc2.

Wait for Planetary Annihilation, should be out soon to reclaim the RTS genre crown :)

Don't bother with Starcraft 2, it looks good, but gameplay wise it's like stepping back in time, playing it after playing SupCom is like playing space invaders after Freelancer, it's just offputting in it's basicness, it's like a 90's RTS with updated GFX.

I know the Starcraft franchise has a massive following among non hardcore RTS fans but SC2 is inferior to SupCom in the same way that SC was never as good as Total Annihilation, you just end up missing all the little things.

Not having a RTS to play is killing me. I keep thinking about giving COH2 another go, but deep down I know nothing will have changed to make me want to play it like COH1 did.

I must admit I have never played total annihilation nor do I know anything about it or planetary. Will have to look them up.

In essence SC2 is definitely a modern update to a classic. It does things differently to Sup Com. It is an easy game to learn, hard to master. The challenge it gives me is great and I definitely do not consider it basic.

Anno2070 is a brilliant in depth game. But it doesn't offer me the same challenge that SC2 does as I work on improving my game. I also really enjoy watching tournaments.

Single player is also great in SC2, really enjoyable with decent length and replayability. If you have never played them, you are missing out. In my opinion it is a solid well rounded RTS that everyone should at least try.

I started playing SC2 around the time HOTS was released.

I was never really into RTS' online as the only other one that grabbed me was Warcraft III all those years ago. Find myself more to be an action/FPS guy on the PC. However...

I was hooked! I played and am still currently playing 2's online and have got into the gold league. I've completed the campaigns and thoroughly enjoyed them both and was really impressed by the story.

I also found myself watching tournaments over Twitch and all the WCS nights. Its great!

If you've ever been tempted do give it a go.

Starcraft 2 is indeed an update of the classic, but still doing so so well. Those that dismiss it instantly as a mouse/keyboard speed test obviously havn't given it the time of day. While it is 'basic' to the untrained eye...at the same time its insanely complex with a huge learning curve.

The strategy involved in this is 2nd to non.

Had played nothing but Civ V plus all its expansions religiously for a long time. I've now been playing Rome 2 for a while but I'm sure I'll go back to Civ as it's great :)

I've gone back to Total Annihilation. Other than Supreme Commander: FA nothing else comes close. That includes SC2, CoH etc.

The fact that the game defeated newer pretenders to the throne like Warcraft III, Starcraft, Generals, AoE, etc to get voted greatest RTS of all time when it was over 7 years old kinda showed the lasting appeal it had, I have strong hopes for planetary Annihilation but I doubt we will ever see the like of TA again as far as landmark games go :(
