I'm getting bored of FPS's now, sure they are great for a laugh but I'm after a game that I keep playing over and over and think an RTS might be what I'm after. The only problem is I've never really played an RTS for quite a number of years so have no idea which ones are any good so any suggestions are appreciated.

I always loved the command and conquer series, generals is the best as its the newest and is 3d. But there is a new star wars one abut to come out which would be good waiting for, cant remember what its called though but the demo just came out last week and there is a lot of hype about it.

Tried games like Rome: Total War R0551? I've got bored of FPS lately, use to play RTS arround the times of Warcraft and Red Alert and loveing Viking Invasion, Medieval Total War as well and Civ4 aint bad.

Dawn of War and Dawn of War Winter Assault are both excellent, it's pretty and hopefully fast enougth to keep you interested.

Age of Empires III is pretty cool too.

Dawn of War and the expansion is really good. Sort of game you don't have to be a fan of Games Workshop stuff to enjoy I'd say.

Just ordered AOE3 so heres hoping it is as good as they say :)

I played it non-stop until I completed it, have also had a couple of games online but I prefer the single player

I've just ordered AOE3 which should turn up with my new HD and 2gb of ram :D

Nice, keep saying to myself that I'll treat myself to 2gb ram next paycheck, never ever get round to it tho :(

I know its not a RTS, but if a deeper experience is what you are after, i cant recommend The Movies enough. It is the only game I have played for ages where time just drifts away when playing it! There are so many ways to play it to; concentrate on studio management, get rid of all those problems and just make your own porn movies etc etc!!

Me too but after checking my bank balance and seeing nearly £500 in there coupled with getting paid tomorrow I though why not :D

If you want a traditional build your base type affair then I'd go for either Dawn of War (+ expansion) or Warcraft III (+ expansion). Both give a very decent single player experience and are great fun in multiplayer too.

If you want something slower and more strategic then I'd go for Rome: Total War.

Personally, I don't rate C&C at all. The early games were great, but the AI never improved at all. You still see the same old tactics and the same tired "one unit attack at a time"/tank rush gameplay. Dawn of War really shows you what RTS AI can do (well, after you've applied the route-finding patch :p).

Another vote for DOW + the expansion, best rts ive played in a long time. Now just waiting for a remake of Starcraft mmmmm I wish

Playing AOE3 at the moment and the sound effects are great, just love it when you have a bunch of motars firing away. The single player is great but it fails with it's multiplayer.
Age of Mythology is still my prefered RTS with great multiplayer.

Also Rome Total War with the Total Realism mod applied is a damn fine game, far better than the unmodded original.
