What self defence should I learn?

The biggest mistake I ever made was to take up a martial art. I got my black belt and a whole host of problems to go with it...

I learned Choi Kwang Do when i was younger, it was started to avoid this very problem iirc.

It was pretty good, although i was probably a bit too young and not interested to fully take in what was on offer.:p

They did teach to defend agaisnt knife/bottle etc attacks, and was quite defensive based.

Edit: link if it helps.... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Choi_Kwang-Do

+1 for boxing, hardest physical thing I've ever done, that with one of the more real life based defence martial arts.

Muay Thai & Krav Maga

Throw some dummy punches which will cause the chav to bring his/her hands up to cover their head. With their guard diverted you can either get them in the clinch and knee them to pieces or low kick them in the side of the kneecap causing them to either fall to the ground or drop to their knees in which case you can either finish them off or back off and start explaining your actions to the police ;)

Boxing is also good but a lot more limited than Kick-Boxing or Muay Thai.

Nope. She left him because he became too obsessed with Keyflicking, and never had time for her.

:(
She will fall for him at the end when he gets a critical injury in the final of the Keyflicking World Championship and she will declare her love for him, this will help him beat the deadly soviet in a 10-11 victory of the century...

Wait, what?

You sir, have lost your marbles.

At a very young age i learnt Karate up untill brownbelt.
At that age its great, tought me to control myself basically both physically and emotionally, and great for drilling respect into people (something severly lacking in the UK imo .. offtopic!).

When i got older i jumped ship into Kickboxing , which imo is better for real-world defensive situations, but deffinatly value the stuff i learnt previously! It made me a better person, imo.

Starting from adult, i would suggest KB over a more traditional Martial Art however.

at end of day a lot of fights are just brawls not legal refereed matches. so while martial arts might help a little basically most are a waste of time.

Speaking of that, I have signed up to... not the world championship... its more of a drive around the "hood" doing drive flicks. Its good practice to hit moving targets. I get 100% of the OAP targets!

When you hit them to them make the "Bid-Ding" noise like when you pick up coins in mario?

Well that shows what you learnt, that isn't even aikido.

And you fall/flip to prevent injury to yourself. If you went for no reason at all then shame on your partner.

And I've said it so many times.... all those that say running is the best strategy, put on an old white T-shirt and give a mate a marker pen. Get him to confront you with the marker pen and attack you as he sees fit (stab, slash etc), whilst you run away.

LOLOL

Ok, Ill do the experiment with you, we both take turns, I'll run away first and you try and see how much ink you get on me in critical areas, then we swap and you can try and defend yourself and we see how much ink you get on you while im trying to "stab" you/punch you in the face
