what should I do to broaden my shoulders?

Bsically I'm a bit tall an skinny. My shoulders aren't very broad and whenever I try and buy a shirt or hire suit my shoulders are always far to narrow. I have some handweights that are about 3kg - if I hold these out at arms length for periods of time will this help to broaden my shoulders? What about just lifting them?
 
I'll be amazed if you see any difference from 3kg handweights. Swimming would be pretty good, all my mates who are serious swimmers developed some seriously big shoulders.

Otherwise you'll have to get some proper weights.
 
I was always skiny at 9.5 to 10.5 stone at 5'10" I started eating he protein diet and weight training and in 6 weeks I have gone from 10.5 stone to 12 stone, and I have less podge on my belly and nice muscles apearing on my arms/chest/shoulders.

I never thought it was possible for me to gain mass but with diet and trainng advice from the net and this forum I know it can be done :)
 
Thats right I'm 16. Think I might go swimming for an hour tomorrow. I might even go rock climbing (at the indoor wall)
 
Big nasty lat raises. Four set of ten each side. Two sets standing, one set sitting and one set with your legs straight in fornt of you on a bench. Picks them oout beautifully.

Shoulder press. Heavy. If you have to use a machine, get your partner to sit behind you flat back so you can't lean back and use your chest. Don't shuffle your butt forward either - just as bad.

Forward and reverse barbell shrugs. And hold them.

Worked for me - my shoulders have always been pretty bad, now i have respectable delts and traps.

I'm 18 and have the exact same problem, i just want to bulk out. I was going to join the gym here on my campus, but I go home soon for easter, then I'll only be here for another few weeks after that.

Oh, and I hate swimming.
 
The gym is fine at 16 if you follow correct form and don't try and pickup stupid weights like most 16yr olds I see down the gym.

If you want to bulk up you need to eat ALL the time and that includes fish, pasta, meat, etc. Not choccies ;)
