Hi all, What do you think i should expect part exchange for my 53 plate (registered feb 2004) Peugeot 307 2.0 HDI 110bhp S, it has 103000miles on it and paintwork is in poor condition in my opinion although no dents (many scratches although only really noticable when you are close to the car, no scuffing though, Interior is in fair - good condition, 6 months Tax (low tax band only cost £60 for 6 months) MOT up in Feb next year.
Below are its known faults..

1.Anti Pollution Fault has been on for 5 months thus not allowing car to go over 2700rpm.
2. Setting's 2 and 4 on heater fan do not work at all.

I have had much done to it in my 3 years of owning the car, below are what i have had replaced..

1. New high rated battery (still got 2 years halford warranty)
2. New Diesel Particle filter (fitted 10 months ago to fix anti pollution fault)
3. New rear springs (fitted 10 months ago)
4. New timing belt and Starter motor fitted 2 years ago
5. New fuel pump fitted 2 years ago
6. New engine and Gear box mounts fitted 2 years ago

I have receipts for all of the above, I also have the RAC HPI vehicle status check paperwork for when i purchased it and the obligatory Haynes manual :D

I am expecting 1k part ex for it, does this sound about right? if not what do you think sale price should be?

You've spent 5 months unable to go over 2700 RPM?!

Yep not had the money to get it fixed, Although my mechanic says it is probably only the sensor, I can still get 80 - 90mph out of it with no issue's, Around town is not a problem either, If anything i only miss the speed when overtaking and needing some speedy acceleration, All it seems to do is not kick the Turbo in.

So you aint got 100 quid to fix the car but you want to part ex it for something else?

What sensor does your mechanic recommend changing? I ask as I seem to remember Anti Pollution Fault being quite common to HDI engines and in many cases it is an issue that is not very cheap to rectify?

Not sure I'd be expecting £1k for it either. I don't think much more screams "Stick it in the auction and forget about it" to a trader than a run of the mill hatchback with engine issues. For that reason they are really going to want to hammer you on Part Ex price.

Just think i have spent out enough on it, Getting the Diesel Particel Filter replaced was pretty costly and i want to get another car anyway.

£350 inc fitting, Also the High pressure diesel pump was changed due to this issue which was £250, The fault code still says Diesel Particle Filter issue which now points to the Sensor, I don't really want to then spend out on that just for the fault to come back.

Well surely its worth replacing the sensor for £90 or so, that way you're not going to get hammered so much on part ex value?

Speculate to accumulate and all that..

I just assumed it would cost a lot more to change the sensor to be honest, other option i am thinking of is getting an ECU remap and get the DPF completely removed.

broken, as it is, it is essentially worthless. spend the money to get the fault fixed, and spend 3-4 hours giving it some serious cleaning and polishing if you intend to sell.

Oh well thats me lost the plot :)

It's only a reprogram to make the car forget about the DPF which in turn gives the car more power and 10% better fuel consumption.

The Remap will cost £200 and my Mechanic has quoted me £500 for Sensor replacement, Also if the reprogram works out to work then i may even keep the car until i run it into the ground.

Its all about cost really.

It books at between £1000 and £1700.

£1000 Poor, £1400 Average, £1700 Clean.

Should get a grand easy.

Still worth a grand.

£1k will be for a shabby example... with a working engine.

This one has a broken engine. I realise it's probably a simple sensor but the fact is, right now, the engine management light is probably on and it hardly revs. It's worth very little to anyone unless the engine works properly.

Right let's put it this way, if the car came to me as a part ex Id pay £1000 for it.

So this means the car is worth a grand.

For those who don't understand basic economics, an item is worth what someone is prepared to pay for it.

And I would pay £1000 for a shabby 53 Plate Diesel 307 which has covered 103k miles with the engine light on, simply because if I sent it to auction I'd make a profit.
