What size SSD?

I used to run a 60GB Vertex2E and now I have a 128GB M4. Managing everything on the 60gb drive became a pain in the ass as there was really only enough room for W7 and a few games.

Now I have Office, Visual Studio and other programs all on my SSD with space to spare. 60GB sounds like a lot but once you start using it, trust me it disappears fast.

i've got the msi z68 g45 g3 mobo
chip set is Intel® Z68 (B3)

i dunno about smart response

Its got it, but don't use it, the idea of SRT is to cache the OS when its installed onto a HDD, which makes it faster.

Use a really fast SSD such as a M4/Corsair like you would any normal HDD.

Why would you want to use SRT if you can just use a really fast SSD as it is.

Because you can get SSD performance for your OS and most common games you play on 500GB-1TB of storage or whatever you have for £90

You have Z68.. consider SRT instead of spending £300 on a SSD

I suspect there are lots of benchmarks online to help you make your decision

if i did go for SRT how do u set it up?

Sorry but its just not as fast using SRT.

Which benchmark was that though? how many times had that test been done, did the cache have time to fill?

So even that above shows that a SSD on its own is faster than with SRT:D

well no of course not... but its a significant bump for £80-£90

I wish they would allow you to choose your own cache size as 64GB is silly... I want 128GB of cache that way my OS and games will be cached

Im just saying.. its an option....

sorry to thread jack but am i right in saying u dont get the full amount to use?

Correct. It's slightly lower than the figure advertised. Something to do with the technology and perhaps spare capacity for failures I think.
