You start a new single player game.. what skill level do you choose?
lets say the game has..

low skill
medium skill
high skill
uber skill

personally i go with medium skill, and if i like the game il play it again at uber skill level.

I can honestly say that there is a game which totally changed the way I feel about gaming - Dark Souls. Before I played it, I would almost always pick medium difficulty, sometimes even easier... Dark Souls has really made me appreciate the challenge more. Of course this is dependant on the game though, there are some games that I really do not like hard difficulties on(I really don't think The Witcher 2 suits a hard difficulty tbh... And skyrim would be another imo ).

Atm I am playing through kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning, and I started on normal but very quickly put it up to the hardest, as it was far too easy(and it's not like me to do that!)... And even on the hardest difficulty, it is still a bit on the easy side.

Really, it all depends on how well balanced the game is as to how it plays on harder difficulties imo.

If available, I like to select 'realistic' first, otherwise 'normal' or 'medium'; during later play throughs I'll try all the other options out. There are always exceptions though; for almost all Stalker mods I'll choose the hardest difficulty (balance depending).

hardest mode possible :P, i punish myself in the end for it but the joy in seeing all the achievements points coming through at the end of completion is tasty.

My mate plays on easy-normal then says he has completed it and gives the game back for another one which grinds my soul sometimes.

But have you really completed a game on easy, like don't you miss out on somethings through the game?

Hard normally, I like a challenge, makes it feel more rewarding when you complete it.

Always medium/normal. Well the one in the middle.

Did occasionally switch to Hard on Bioshock Infinite but found it frustrating

Normal / Medium

Although it depends on the game and what I'm trying to get out of it, ie do I want a challenge or just some fun.
