What skill level do you choose when playing single player games?

Use to always play medium/normal but now I just go for very hard/hardcore although it depends on the game. I wouldn't dream of doing it for an RTS for example but would for an FPS game.

Normal/medium for almost all but i tend to play the harder difficulties in dungeon loot games as those games tend to get a bit too easy once the gear starts flowing otherwise.

FPS: Normal, except for Stalker then its hardest
Racing: Totally unfair cheating bar steward.

I seriously struggle to find decent AI to race against in driving games that I like. Normally I resort to giving the AI a far superior car. Back in the days when I raced in forza 3 or 4 I could happily bring out a stock car an entire class below what the AI had and still win without too many problems

med/normal if something casual (an FPS, something like skyrim or whatever or driving)

RTS hard, and increasing to highest difficulty once adjusted to it (total war and such)

ArmA2/3 as hard as you can make it, first person only type stuff.

I'd normally go high.

Medium doesn't generally offer enough of a challenge, and I prefer not to put my fist through my monitor that ultra rage can sometimes cause.

normal. although I have completed CoD2, 4, WaW, MW2, BOps on veteran, Including Mile High Club ;)

Likewise (on 360) - quite how my control pad survived, i'll never know.

:D

The vast majority of games I play on the normal setting, as I want to experience the main bulk of the game without getting stuck or frustrated. The only time I'll change it is if the game seems particularly easy or hard.

Now most FPS are on consoles as well I'd imagine most of us could handle them fairly comfortably on hard though.

Medium to begin with on 1st playthrough, if the game warrants a 2nd and 3rd, it goes up until I get sick of failing lol.

It also depends on whether I plan to play online as well for me. Take company of Heroes and Starcraft 2 as examples. I really wanted to play through the campaigns, but I was also aware that I would play them online afterwards, so I played them on hard to try and prepare myself.

Used to always do hard to make games last longer/have a bit of a challenge. If i get stuck then I'll lower it for that part.

However of late just been going with medium as I'm starting to get bored with most games. In the hope that I'll get to the end of the story before I get too bored -.-

Hard, then if its a good game another playthrough on hardest. Been like this ever since i played the original Halo on legendary which took the game to a whole new level.

Whatever the default level is, which is usually normal or medium. If I like the game enough I'll ramp up the difficulty for the next playthrough.

Usually normal as I like to get through the campaign in a timely fashion but without steamrolling it.
