what sort of car is good with a new baby?

Not looking forward to finding out how limiting my girlfriend's F55 Mini (5 door) will be in a few years time.

You'll be fine, we coped with my wife's R56 JCW and that fit her, me the baby (admittedly not rear facing but quite bulky Britax trifix car seat), Quinny three wheel buggy thing and the various other baby accessories that you have to carry round. You just have to get creative with the use of space.

Yes it would have been 'easier' with a bigger car but you don't need a massive thing just because you have a baby.

First of all many congrats Dr House!

I've been having the same dilemma too in recent weeks. Our little one is now 7 weeks old and we've been managing with my wife's ford fiesta until now for small trips to hospital, midwife and town, but now long trips/weekends away just yet.

Unfortunatey my E46 coupe is pretty useless for baby seats and starting to show it's so am in badly need of an upgrade. Got a budget of 20-25K but struggling to find anything I like. Would be looking to keep it for semi long term so not overly concerned with depreciation (within reason) and would have to also be used as a daily for mainly short trips for commuting and work proposes. Ideally after a spacious petrol with a bit of punch.

You need to be followed at all times by a Ford Transit going by some of the comments.

No no, a single transit with a single seat in the back leaves plenty of room for prams etc no need to have two

Although i do have to laugh at it these days, my parents didnt seem to have any trouble fitting themselves, me and whatever other stuff they needed into the mightiest of metro's

I think the point is you can manage with a small car, there's plenty of young single mums who manage with a 3 door Corsa but when you're in the position to afford the correct tool for the job get something big enough.

It's like you can get by with a 640x480 monitor or just a mouse and an on screen keyboard but stuff is a lot easier and more enjoyable at 1080p and with a proper keyboard!

10 year old and border collie here so would say a 5 series size estate would be a good size. Plenty of room to chuck a bike/pram in without faffing about.

One of those new Volvo V90's would be a decent bet.
